Strange rover defender.??..WTF..??

So this guy walks into our shop the other day saying he has just bought his dream defender truck from a dealer in west palm beach.. He was genuinely excited but wanted us to address some issues he was having as he hasn't been able to drive it since he bought it.. So apparently the customer has used all of his triple a tows in the month he's had it.... So we get it shipped in and when it arrives I'm like...who's car is this, surely this isn't what the guy was talking about... So the customer shows up a couple of minutes later and is like...so how do you like my defender.... So as politely as I can I say to him...sir, that ain't no defender..?? It's not... But strange rover told me it was....ROTFPML....

Poor guy. I feel bad for him. That StrangeRover dude fleeces everyone with his use of crap parts and copious amount of rattle can paint in all the wrong areas.

He is def not going to like the bill to get it daily driver worthy.

preying on the uninformed. THat is horrendous.
did he say what he paid?
I don't think its financially feasible to make that a daily driver or even a reliable driver.

"but I swear honey, it's going to be great...you can drive it too and we can do all sorts of family adventures in it...."

Fixed it for you.

Any way the customer can file an official complaint to hopefully start to get the dude behind strange rover's dealer license revoked?

Yeah but all in all guys you can't feel sorry for the guy it's his responsibility...Strange Rover my be all bad but I doubt if he said buy this or die. I spent months doing research before I bought and still feel it was more luck than anything.

I'm glad I found this forum and it's vast knowledge base to influence my decision.

He should file an official complaint against himself, come on, this is the information age.

I haven't gotten into with the customer how much he paid.. Hopefully he got it cheap because it looks about as bad as it is... As we say in England..it's a bit of a shed... But, hey, maybe it's what the guy wanted...but yes, he'll be a little disillusioned when he gets the list of what's wrong and needs fixing... I usually try to be gentle with them first of all..

Dealers are licensed for a few reasons. One of them is to hold them accountable for deceptive advertising. Here are the rules for your state.

Although not a real Defender in name to the initiated, it is a Defender to a lot of people. From a heritage point of view, it is a Defender's Uncle....

There are more laws to protect the seller from getting his ass beaten for pulling the wool over the buyers eyes than laws to protect the buyer.

Maybe the buyer wanted a series truck. He obviously wanted it if he bought it. And, why should you feel bad about giving him the true cost of getting it road worthy or into whatever shape he wants it to be?

Well thanks...but not too sure I am the one that needs that. It's all good sense really if you're going to buy something, educate yourself on the product. Most money isn't easily earned. The only point I'm trying to make is know what you're buying, avoid the issue of being wronged by doing even a little research. Just TRY not to be the victim.

In the end it was he and the seller...no one knows for sure what the hell happened.

Not the first Series type that I have seen advertised as a Defender. Hopefully the guy loves it enough, and has the means to make it what he wants it to be. From the original posts description of the guys excitement, it sounds like he see's a diamond in the dirt, errr, rough.
