Starting a machining business

I'm thinking about starting a machining business.
Initially just 3-axis milling and 2-axis turning.
Has anyone here done something similar?
For now, it will be general machining.
I've been in the machining industry for 25 years, along with a MS in engineering.
I plan on doing this part time to test the waters...

I used to work with machine shops quite a bit for a few years to have aluminum components machined. You're going to need a contract(s) to pay the bills, or you're going to have to become a job shop. And starting off as a job shop is very, very difficult without capital.

Do you already have customers?
