Cool Spotted....Finally

After owning my Defender for a little over a year, and living in a heavily defender populated area,
I finally got the opportunity to see another D while driving mine. I'm forever the idiot in the Grand Cherokee or the Honda Accord waving frantically to other defenders... Oh boy what people must think. This morning I was headed to work about 6:45 am EST and spotted a yellow defender on the horizon. On the approach, the other D flashed lights and waived, to which I replied courteously with a flash, toot of the horn, and a hearty wave. Nice to see another. I know there are a couple of Long Island members on the board. Yellow Defender soft top. Wednesday morning 6:45am. North bound on Rte 106 heading toward Oyster Bay. Nice rig.

We need to establish a special wave or recognition, for those of you with other vehicles.

That would be good. this way I won't look like such an ass when I'm in beeping and waiving like a freak from the wife's accord! Any suggestions?

Just put a "Best 4x4xFar" sticker on the back of your Honda and a "One Life, Live It" across the top of the windshield. I also suggest a "Land Rover Specialist Vehicles" sticker for the Jeep. Maybe a "Camel Trophy" plaque as well.

that might help

Follow-up Post:

maybe I could take that "defender owner" patch and put it on a small flag that I could just waive out the window

That wouldn't be effective enough. I dissed madcowdungbeetle in Charlotte a little while back, when he pulled up next to me on the freeway in his Toyota Something pickup. I didn't even notice him, and wouldn't have seen the stickers in the back. The only other time I would even take notice is a Defender coming at me on the opposite way in traffic.

I would never notice an Accord or any non-rover vehicle coming at me in the opposite direction (even with a sticker) unless they were waving at me to get my attention. I already get plenty of stares, and plenty of in car pointing, but no waves.

This is a good idea, we should post pics of Defender owners hand signs and then vote for the one we like to become the Defender Owners Super Secret "I'm part of the club even though I am embarassed to drive in this Dodge Dart while the rover is in the shop" sign.

That hurts just reading it. I think the better way to say it is the Super Secret "I'm part of the club and driving this POS so I can preserve my Defender for MAR"

I was thinking about a hand sign a few weeks ago when I passed a 90 on the highway in my wife's Honda Pilot and the driver appropriately ignored me. I vote for the Texas Longhorn hook 'em signal although it has other meanings according to the wikipedia entry.

Unless it was a factory 1968 Super Stock hemi Dart.
You could buy the 110 of your dreams, have ECR completely re-do it and still have money in your pocket for what those are going for ! LOL

One of the guys in the high school class one year ahead of me (I graduated in 1969) had one of those Hemi Darts - it was very impressive during senior drag days.....

And yes the family had money - his sister drove a Lotus Europa

Anything but a thumbs up and middle finger will do. Who else is making hand gestures at you other than these two?

I think a specially designed panty sling-shot would be cool. We could LenB to crank them out in Aluminum.

I tried to pull off that hand sign and hurt myself. How do you flash that while driving ???!!!!??? I might crash my car.

Follow-up Post:

we need something a little more simple. We can only use one hand.

I thought about this some last night. I get thumbsup already from strangers. Wave is too generic. Ruling out thumb, middle finger, I'm thinking a single left hand index finger (#1 gesture) pointing straight up in there is unique and easy enough to be recognized. Nobody else would be doing it, unless your leaving a college town or stadium after a big win.

Unless your hands are oily and your knuckles are scarred or bloody, you're not a defender owner.

Even though I get most of my work done by mechanics....
