Speedo Decision

So, the speedo crapped out on the soft top. All it will do is light up. No movement or flickering digital readout.

Now I have to make a decision.

I received a brand new speedo from RoversNorth as a Christmas gift, and have been putting off installing it. I even have the sticker from LR to fill in the old mileage when I replace it. But...in the back of my head a voice keeps telling me to send my old one up to ECR and have them fix my original (assuming that they can fix it and that RN will take the brand new one back and give me credit or cash). The truck has around 73,000 miles on it, and I'd like to keep it as original as possible. I never plan on selling it, but who knows. I don't want to take a hit for a new speedo from somebody buying it down the road (if that happens).

What do you guys think?

seems to me most good speedo shops can roll the milage forward, so if the RN replacement is the exact same, i'd just do that.

i would do the ECR fix. Odo replacement with proper paperwork should be ok- especially with these trucks, but why even bother if you can keep the original one functioning. The dealer had just replaced the odo when I bought my truck; it obviously wasn't a deal breaker, but I wish they had gone the ECR route. Just seeing mileage discrepancy on the carfax will put buyers off.

ECR! For all the reasons you already stated.

Can it really be that hard to take that speedo apart and fix it yourself? It's just a broken ribbon cable. Obviously only if you're good with soldering and stuff.

Already did that. This time it's mechanically not working either. I have fixed the one in the SW, and it has been working fine for a couple of years now. The one in the ST worked for a few months, then just died for no good reason.

Shawn:
I had the exact same situation as you've outlined in my SW. Bought a new speedo from Mike @ Westchester LR, but didn't feel right about it. The date code thing bugged me. Sent my orig to ECR -came back a few days later, is perfect.
The speedo on my ST is now flickering and about to crap out - and I plan on sending it to ECR, too.

I still have the new one - figure I'll keep it - ya never know if a good deal on a trail truck or a burn truck will come along.....

I would say bumping the mileage on the new one to match you old is the best long term option.
