speaker query

I'm looking into replacing the speakers and was wondering if it's really nessecary to go with some form of waterproof speaker. Or is there something you can do to make regular speakers "more waterproof".

Logically, it makes sense to do that.... I was querying the bunch to see what you guys think.

I've got a 94 ST.

I think the big thing (especially with an ST) is not to buy speakers with paper based cone materials. But most decent to high end speakers don't seem to use paper anymore. Just feel the cone material and the flexible material that connects the cone to the frame, and make sure it doesn't feel like something that will dry out overtime and tear instead of flex.

I have found as long as they stay "fairly clean" they work ok when wet. But as soon as they have been in mud a few times they don't work nearly as good. It also pays to put something like silicone on the sonnections to seal them up, othewise they rust.
