While unwrapping the 12 miles of wrapping around the cage parts or ran into a stumbling block during the install, we cried out "Damn you Nigel". We still use the phrase every now and then when something goes wrong. LOL

Just about.
Axle cases and suspension parts can be redone, but lots of media blasting and such in our future. Thats the great thing about Defenders though.. they can be rebuilt.

This one is going Td5 so at least we don't have to try and save those fuel lines or anything (not that we could).

I went to the factory in Solihul back in 2002. Looked high and low for this Nigel guy, but nobody would own up to knowing him. I was supposed to deliver him a message from all our techs. :]

Seems kind of silly to reuse axle cases other than a salisbury.

There must be some sentimental value to the truck to go that far. Seems it would be more cost effective to buy another one to upgrade. No?

Guess you have to think if there is just that, sentimental value. The Series I have is going to cost me a bunch to fix up and run, and there have been a few other Series trucks I could have bought that need nothing compared to mine for most likely less than what I will have to put into mine. But this truck has a value that it used to belong to others in my family, has a cool history and travels, so part of me would like to get this one going again. Just a matter in this case if I have the means to fix this one for its sentimental value vs just spending the money on one that already runs

Why spend money on a better truck when the owner wants it all re-done with galv frame, diesel conversion and such? Another truck may have "less" rust, but rust is rust and he wants a truck that is like new, not like sort good. He also wants the truck to last longer the next time around, so if he bought another stock NAS 110 he'll see the same results in a few years (rusted out) and he would be back to this again. That would be cheaper, but people want what they want.
I personally don't see the point in buying a good NAS 110. I want one that is the worst it could be because I'm going to change/upgrade everything anyway, so I would not pay a premium for good parts. Just my take on it as we are doing a full restoration, not a fluff. If you want a cheap as possible "driver" this is the wrong way to go about it, but that isn't what we are doing here.

Its all personal. You can't judge another persons mind.

I have an Amphicar I am working on. For much less then I will spend in time and parts I could go buy one that is already done by someone else. Problem is that I want to build it and the other ones out there would not be built the way I want mine. Money doesn't always enter the picture.

I've also got a 1970 Firebird to restore. It was my first car and my father bought it new. It isn't worth much but I'll have huge money in fixing it. I don't care.

Worry less about what others are spending and just enjoy.

A customer of mine just bough a huge house on Nantucket just so he could knock it down and build his new hose where it was. I think that is nutz, the old house was perfectly fine, but that is his choice. I'm not going to say he was wrong or that there was a better way as that is just my opinion and is therefore worthless to him.

The pin in it was gone/broken completely.
It wasn't a hinge anymore.

Did it leave a trail of rusty bits like bread crumbs when you rolled it in the shop?

You should post a list of the items you were able to salvage when you are done- all 2 or 3 of them.

The handbrake was locked up solid on this one, so it didn't even "roll" in. It had to come in on the ramp truck and then get dragged off.

To me doesn't matter how bad it is. I'm just glad it isn't getting junked and will be a great 110 again.
