SO f'in pissed

Just got done filling out a police report for having the rover broken into last night . Evidently someone slashed the tops of like 6 convertibles in my apartment complex last night. I don't even get it: I didn't have ANYTHING inside the rover, the tuffy box was locked up, I park in an underground and well lit lot under my building (supposedly safer ), and all of my doors were unlocked. They slashed a huge hole in my passenger side window and didn't even have the decency to take the change out of the ash try!! They also slashed the top of my roommate's S2000 and only took his like $2 in change. They didn't even take his sunglasses which were lying out.

What do i do from here?? I'm gonna call the insurance company tomorrow and find out what they want to do. Is there anywhere i can buy just windows?? Although, i'm still on the original top and it has definitly seen much better days. Maybe it's time for a badger.....i wonder how much i can squeeze out of the bank account......

.....guess i'll just go drinking for now.......thanks for listening to the rant

I feel for you man. I can relate. Sounds like you got off easy though..

When it happened to me, some bozo thought it was fun to jump up and down on my hood, and kicked the windshield. Broke my hard top windows and stole 1K worth of tools. Damage to hood $1,200, damage to windows $1,000 etc.. etc...
Heard the f..ker slip on the hood and fell to the pavement hard, according to a neighbor who called the cops. The two
vandals ran off, one limping. That was good to hear..

Welll sounds like time for a new badger top. Some things are meant to be I guess.

The easy (cheaper) option is to have a local place sew in a new window panel

The easy (cheaper) option is to have a local place sew in a new window. It shouldn't cost too much, but it woudn't have the same "character" as the old one unless you scratched it up before installing it. Personaly, if I was replacing one window I would do the others at the same time. Having one crystal-clear window with the rest showing their age would bug the sh*t out of me.

The better option is a Badger. Pricey, yes, but you get what you pay for. They work better, are easier to install (after the initial fitting), and to my eye just look so much better than a Bestop could even if it was brand new.

I had someone cut my top just behind the door to reach in and unlock and ended up locking the damn thing. Then gave up since I was puzzled at first why my door was unlocked. All you got to do is jiggle the handle!

I would talk to the insurance guy and see if you can't talk them into a new badger. Tell them BesTop isn't making replacements (not on the website at least) and see if you can sweet talk them into a Badger since they are the only people making replacements now.

Or just get an installed quote for a new top from a Dealer and it should cover about the cost of a badger.

Update

thanks everyone for the ideas. I like the idea of getting a quote from the stealership. I am thinking my best bet is to call up badger....i knew this day would come sooner or later. I've filed my insurance claim, but I'm waiting for the claim's department to call me back and let me know what they want to do.

Our break-in made the N&O: http://www.newsobserver.com/102/story/495651.html . The guy in the interview is my room mate whose S2000 got ripped into. Attached are some pics from the breakin

Sorry to hear about your window getting cut. I think you're on the right track -- pricing a fix from the dealership, a local soft top repair shop and possibly taking this opportunity to upgrade to a Badger top.

I had a boat shop in Wilmington make a new rear window assembly....think it was $50
Wish they would have cut out the window and sewn in a new piece...
But it is nice and clear.....

Or you could use a hi-lift jack or be creative and use your chemisty book

Yeah but a wooden bat is much more personal and satisfying.
