Snowstorm will shut down DC

The coming snowstorm has been advertised to provide as much as 30 inches of snow by the time it has finished passing thru the area on Saturday afternoon. The city has gone into ape-shit panic mode clearing every grocery store, liquor store and gas station of their entire inventory. The Federal Government, as well as every local jurisdiction has made plans to shut down by sending employees home four hours early today. All the schools are closed without a single flake falling as yet. All activities scheduled for tomorrow are canceled.

I have my bucket full of chains and straps in the back of the Loob, and my Gravely riding tractor stands by with the snowblower attachment, gassed up and ready to rock.

Good luck to all of you who are affected by this.

I put the 33's on the 130 and threw the recovery gear in the back. Hoping to get the winch bumper on and winch wired up before the festivities start.

Doug, please don't let some moron in a Pathfinder jack you up. Stay home. We must preserve our Rover's precious bodily fluids.

it's pretty ridiculous. I was on 270 at 4am listening to WTOP and the list of closings just grew from a 30 second quick sprout to 6 minute lists of closings, delays, early dismissal. Insane. Frederick county closing 3.5 hrs early? ARE YOU KIDDING half those kids drive tractors TO SCHOOL.

100,000+ Metro area Federal Government employees to be released 4 hrs early?

I am going to enjoy ever minute of the commute home I am sure.

Oh and everyone who finds it necessary to drive in this weather.. BE SAFE!

I agree. They should only send out half the Social Security, Medicare, Tax Refund, Farm Subsidy and VA benefit checks.

Did you really mean we should withhold disability payments to men and women who risked their lives to serve their country and subsequently suffered debilitating injuries?

It's causing a stir at this end of the country as well.
Flights to DC, Baltimore and Philly are being cancelled in droves.
There are some unhappy east coasters stuck in L.A., S.F., Portland and Seattle airports today....

My brother lives in the area and last storm in Dec was driving Doctors and Nurses to the hospital. Said they were extremely grateful buying him coffee and one sent cookies as a thanks afterwards. He said there was someone in a 90 that was pretty sweet with Super Swampers helping as well.

Anyone looking to get some fun driving time in and help out should call the hospitals up there. He is in Reston.....

Dude, relax. As gubmint employees Bill and I are allowed to make those kind of jokes. Best bit yet is that while employees who reported to work are being released four hours early, those who chose to work from home today are expected to put in a full 8 hours! Ha ha!

Even better, those who chose to take liberal leave get charged a full day anyway, even though us losers who came to work get administrative leave.

Naah, they just hype everything. Business as usual here. Just got back from driving in the snow to see a vet and schedule a friggin surgery for my dog's knee (you don't want to know how expensive that is!). Will likely be taking hospital employees to/from work tomorrow to build up some good karma. I kind of enjoy the snow.

I work from home so even wasting 2.5 hours this morning doesn't stop me putting in a full days work and working some more thei weekend

I'm calling it the snowpocalypse by the way the morons in this area react to snow. You'd think it's the end of the world. Suddenly they think they need a shovel and some milk and bread to "survive."

Growing up in CO, I'd still have to go to school with 2ft of snow forcasted and life goes on.

I hope we get hit in NY! I might go wheeling if we get a lot of snow. Might do another Pine Barrens run.
