I'm hearing the forecast is 48 inches-biggest snow fall ever for the area since records have been kept. That said they are never right in this area. That is enough snow to stop most 4x4's even with capable drivers. A little bread and milk ? Give me booze- I can last a week with this spare tire.

I just drove the North Arlington area and it's getting pretty bad. Only 7 inches so far, and about 50 yards of visibility. No plows seen on public roads during 45 minutes of driving. Power out near Falls Church, it appears.

Wondering if I should go back out again, around midnight. That would be probably be totally senseless.

I should have shoveled/blown some yesterday as it's deep enough to give my snow blower trouble. That's 19" high on the railing so we must have gotten more than that so far. Still coming down, and had a power outage for couple of hours this AM.

On a "humanitarian mission" - took my snow blower to some friends culdesac and helped them clear their driveways. Then ran a few laps around the culdesac (bashing through some big snow banks created by plows on the main road) to pack the snow since it hadn't been plowed and the snow was too deep for most vehicles.

No but I was thinking one could invest in one and earn enough to pay it off in two days in my neighborhood alone!

Loudoun Snow Report

Here is a Land Rover windhsield view photo from just about 30 minutes North of Charles (Sterling). Supposedly - Loudoun County got between 30 and 36 inches.

From all indications - the best snow is here and not in Unity, ME.

My power just came back on after 16 hrs off with temps in the teens. The 130 is still the only truck that has made it off my peninisula and I have had to pull the winch hook twice to hook to tree's in my neighbors yards-can't keep momentum up due to the narrow street. I have been in and out three times (had to repo my 8kw genset from a friend who had power) and the snow hasn't packed down much @ all. There is one 7-11 open and two gas stations a couple miles away all staffed by the same people who were working Friday night and couldn't leave. Nothing else is open-Safeway, McD's, Home Depot all closed. Of course I moved all my snow shovels, gravely tractor, etc down to the farm and have bupkis here. Looks like superbowl @ home.

Doug, my Gravely (rider) just spins wheels in this stuff. Tried the Snow Blower, which works a treat when the tractor can push it, but right now it's a boat anchor. Chains no help, there's ice under the snow layer.

Snowed here for about 36 hours. According to my tape measure there is 22 inches. Drifts are easily 3 feet in places and snow banks from the plows are about the same. I broke tracks through the alley twice during the storm since nobody can get back there, everyone parks on the street and space is limited. I've almost gotten stuck back there a few times but it hasn't happened yet. Drove around a bit and broke through some of the other alleys in the neighborhood. Some streets are plowed but other aren't at all. So far nothing in town that the 90 can't handle.

A couple of pics here, including the last two from Tuesday night's smaller snowfall. Had some fun getting the Benz through the alley and into the backyard parking spot..
