Thats another one that had a history for a while of getting passed around a few times on eBay. Havent seen it for a long time. Figured someone bought it and restored it from its hideous state. Apparently not. LOL

I've seen it several times around here -- the cage work is suspect at best. If anyone's interested in it though, i'd be happy to run over to the dealer and check it out.

I think there is no use for this at all.

One of the best things about the Defender when hauling something (or being getting to or being in the back seat) is the tremendous height the back has......

Like the Pope-Mobile D90, thats another truck that would benefit from going to a soft top.

Reminds me some what of this abomination.

The owners of these two rigs must have been brothers.

OMG... now I'm going to have nightmares...

I keep hoping that Fastback thing and the Popemobile will land at ECR so we can put them back to stock(ish), but they never seem to be selling for cheap enough to make it worth the work to "fix" them.

I do not check PMs. Call or email if you need something.

ECR is not a parts source. We are not in the mail order business.

Trust me, the construction quality matches that of the design. Mercifully, it appears that it could fairly easily be brought back to normal.

Yes. Please do. And then post a lot of rude, snarky comments about it on here to amuse us.

Am I crazy, or is that cage totally non-functional? It looks like he's just got the B- and C-pillar hoops bolted directly onto the top of the rear tub or something.

The scary thing is that the cage isn't the most bizarre thing on that truck.

Take another look at the spare wheel carrier and see if you can figure that one out. He's sheered off the lug bolts that hold the spare wheel on (and gone to the trouble of recoating/repainting it, it looks like), and then left the totally non-functioning wheel carrier on, and tossed his spare up on the roof and mounted it. What the hell's up with that?

There is at least one positive aspect with the truck... The 5 bar diamond plate in the cargo area looks nice... Although I would hate to crawl back there, in shorts, in the summer to get a tool.

That link should come with a warning! The only thing missing are some 24s with spinners, or maybe THESE...

BTW, the Slant-Back was probably a team effort by the same A** Holes that designed Comisky (Eggghhhhmmmm, I mean US Cellular Field) Park & the addition to Soldier Field!

Actually, it's not quite that clever (I had a long look at the truck a month or so ago at the REI parking lot). They bolted a piece of 3/8" steel to the top of the tub, then welded the pipe (not DOM) cage to the plate. The bottom of the cage is hanging out off of the side of the capping. It looked like they did this because they kept the factory A pillar and extensions over the doors and continued that same plane all the way back. In a roll the entire cage would fall down around the sides of the truck.

So no, you're not crazy. And that's my last snarky comment of the night. . . about that truck

Jeeze guys, my retinas just stopped peeling from the last time those two trucks burned my eyeballs out. At least this time when I start screaming in my sleep, and my wife wakes me up and asks whats wrong, I won't have to show her the photos again.

It just keeps showing up. Someone should put a 13k standing offer on it and see if the dealer ever caves. I bet they didnt pay more than 13 for it anyway. We could even organize a collective effort to browbeat them about how crappy it is. I get so annoyed at car dealer's unwillingness to know anything about the vehicles they are selling that I can easily justify to myself that they deserve torment.

I have to log off or else I'll spend all my time hating it.

If it was cheap enough I don't think it's a bad purchase, but I don't need a street legal 90. I have come to the conclusion that D;s were never meant to be on paved roads.
