Shipping a gearbox

Anyone know the best way to ship a gearbox? What's the approximate cost?

Thanks!

From where to where, that is the question.

Take off the bell housing and put it in another box. Drain it and wrap it in a plastic garbage bag and make a box barely bigger than the gearbox (some wood clad in carboard should be fine), stuff the box with foam and tape it up and drop it off at Fedex and ship oversize (up to 150lbs). Ship the bellhousing on the same shipment, but in its own box. It should be under $150 coast to coast.

At buyer (Shayne @ Rover Shop) request and recommendation, I shipped an R380 from VA to FL earlier in the year by packing it in one of the lightweight plastic footlockers/trunks found at Walmart, etc. I packed some cardboard boxes around it to stabilize its position, and then shipping-taped the crap out of it.

As I recall, the box was about $20-25 and the shipping via FedEx was about $70. It worked well, and was much easier and cheaper than the way I received another one a few months earlier via pallet.
