Sankey trailer tail gate

How hard is it to cut a tail gate opening into one of the non-tailgate Sankey trailers? Anyone ever done it? Or is it just that much easier to go with one that already has the tail gate as part of it?

Toying with doing one one mine. Need to figure it out soon if I'm going to galvanize the tub. The tailgate I bought with the pioneer toolkit got stolen-pissed.

Stolen from where??? If you attempt this let me know - sounds like yours is the solid style tub too?

Can you just cut the rear of the tub and use that panel as the tailgate with some extra hardware added in?

You could use aluminum channels to make a pseudo frame , then cut the outer perimeter and voila, you have a tailgate ( use precision tools so you have a perfect line ) , then use Defender door seal around to water tight as much as possible , giving you a nice finish as well.

P.S. mock the hinges before catting for a nice alignment

I was going to use a defender tailgate and found a military one with the pioneer mounts and bought the tools seperately. All got nicked on the other side of the pond along with a super low mileage 1.4 tcase I scored out of a td5. The defender tailgate is too tall and would need to be shortened in order to work-no big deal.
