Row??

Knowing what has recently happened to folks imported trucks being taken (I feel bad for each one of them). Also, understanding there is risk. What is your opinion on purchasing an imported Defender at this point? This is assuming all import paperwork is correct, complete, etc.

It is, as always, the responsibility of the importer and buyer to do their homework and ensure it meets current import standards.

This topic has been covered, extensively, in the what's legal thread.

If you're asking for an opinion (I hear they are like assholes). I wouldn't import right now; maybe wait a few months for the heat to dissipate. But of you're on the right side of the law you've got nothing to worry about.

There are importers (think, Uncle Doug) who are steadily bringing in legal LR's. It isn't the timing, it's the due diligence to ensure you're meeting the criteria required.

So what I said, minus the opinion part, though you and I both have ours...

If it's completely original, you have nothing to be concerned about...

I have said it a dozen times but there is no heat on imports. I have had 8 clear in that past 30 days. Imported one for myself this past month and picked it up Friday. The issue isn't about the paperwork. Never has been. Many misinformed souls with access to keyboards.

Its about the truck and making sure it is in order/eligible for entry.

Agree 100%; doesn't mean I would want to have a truck imported at present. Has a lot less to do with fact and a lot more to do with the ambiguous human element in importation, in general. But If you're right you're right; if the guy doing inspections today and bad cream in his coffee you might still be wrong... Though I understand that's the risk you take on days that end with 'y'

Eliminate variables. No issues. Recent events are tied to 2012 and before.

Few US Customs inspectors @ the docks are even aware of the current munitiae, as of Friday morning when I was in the Port fo Baltimore.
Many of those guys are 8-5 do my job and go home types and they have their marching orders from 2012 with regards to inspecting these trucks. The environment is a totally level playing field.
