Given the surge in Defender prices these days, this FJ55 looks to be a deal. For $17.5k and 5 doors, thinking I would go here today. http://oklahomacity.craigslist.org/cto/5153536268.html 1975 toyota land cruiser fj 55 all original paint, i have never seen a all original paint fj55 in this kind if shape, only rust, behind front tire on finder, that they all have, just rebuild all the motor, and new clutch, has factory pto winch with custom front and back bumpers, has 33,9,5 15 b f goodrich all terrains even the spare, factory am radio at works, paint in great shape, some is the inside, very rare in all original and this shape, drives like a dream, only 113k miles 200 on new motor $17,500

Still regretting passing on a FJ 60 that had a oh so sweet Toy six cylinder turbo diesel and five speed.....

fj55 aka Iron Pig because its so ugly. Had a 74 when I was in college. Loved that truck for its simplicity and reliability and hauling lacrosse long sticks and all my other college crap around. Mine needed brakes all the way around so I traded even up for a mercedes 220s.

In the market for my 15 yr old daughter. She (and I) like all the options - the more eccentric the utilitarian ride the better.

Better be quick Russell...that would actually probably qualify as an investment. Doubtful you would lose value if kept in orig shape.

Good luck with the hunt Russ. I say life is too short to drive a civic when you rather be driving something else.

A close friend of mine's eldest daughter received a full-ride, including room and board, to Maryland. She was also accepted at some other really strong schools but w/o the same financial accommodations. Her father told her if she decided to go to Maryland for undergrad she could have any car she wanted. She ultimately decided on an ultra clean original VW Bus from San Diego.

I tend to only chime in with arcane automotive trivia... FJ55s were shipped to the U.S. in white and painted their various colors at their port of entry.

I had an '83 BJ60 before I got my 90. I have to say, with as much rust as you get on a Rover, it will never rust like a Toyota.

(I was thinking right at the time, got tired of the brown and went coniston green)

Absolutely LOVE the FJ55's....especially the two-tone paint jobs. Seen a bunch in the orange like you posted above, as well as a pale green. Had no idea they were painted @ the dealerships (though should be no surprise since I think the A/C and soft-tops were all installed on the NAS 90s at the dealer).

Russell - I say get her behind the wheel of that tank! Only downside is the 8mpg that she'll be getting.
