Trevor...why the name change? Did LRNA come after you for RoverLabs?

Wow thanks for the info. That is unbelievable that you can't even use the name Rover, what if that was your legal name and you wanted to have that in your shops name?

It's almost worth the $50 filing fee in entertainment value for me to register a new Iowa entity...something like "Land Rover Can Bite Me If They Really Think I'll Buy A New One, LLC"

Got bored one day at work and looked up LRNAs trademarks. All they have is the name land rover with the green or black oval.

They actually send copies of what they have copyrighted with the letter, The word Rover and the word Defender included. They didn't list "defender" in my letter but they went after defender.com in Canada.

At least one person is standing up to them that I know of.

I doubt "rover" as a trademark survives.

They want 6 months to review the companies books to ascertain to what extent Land Rovers intelectual property has been impacted ?

Dayum- glad I rolled over when Ron told me to.

I wonder what Rovers North pays to play. 2-3% sales probably.

We do not pay to use the Rover name. We have 2 separate agreements with Land Rover, one for parts sales and one for vehicle sales. This allows us the use of their name in our business.

What a joke. Does Jeep go after companies that use their name? I see a few 'Willys' parts places.
Don't they have better ways to spend their money? Maybe they have too many lawyers on the payroll and get bored.

They absolutely have a Intellectual Property department whose sole job is to protect their brand. Better to be over-protective then not.

that's a mistake. they should have moved their trademarks to Bermuda years ago and charged royalties for their use and let that stream of income grow tax-free.

I gave no legal advice, I merely told you lawyers are expensive. Land Rover trademarked "Rover" quite recently.

IMO, I still think LR was being short-sighted in not embracing the independants that support the enthusiasts and others loyal to the green oval.
Their attorney once remarked that they were concerned that someone looking to purchase a new Range Rover might mistake my place for a dedicated Land Rover Center.

I could see how the old barn could be misleading, and the driveway full of Rovers which a dealer likely wouldn't offer for sale, but I've never seen chickens, pigs and goats roaming around Land Rover Harrisburg....

You said you would like to fight them and would probably win but if you were me you would acquiesce

Mind you, this is the same company that came up with the DC100...

I couldn't agree more. You and I are perfect examples. Both operating out of barns on our residential properties, dealing with down market trucks and in no way impacting LRNA. This is a North American thing and probably driven by the law firm doing the work for Land Rover. In the UK any small shop working on Rovers incorporates the word into their company name and modifys land rovers logo to suit and its accepted without issue.

I think they are worried we will sully the snob appeal they foster.
