Rover Racks Fiberglass top

Did anyone else get the email today about the new rover racks hard top. Looked kind of cool. Shocked they didn't post anything about it.

The email I got:

Hello fellow D90 Owners!

You are receiving this mail because you asked to be put on our mailer regarding our new Defender 90 Fiberglass Tops for purchase. We have worked out the kinks in our production process, and we now can take orders for the tops. Here are some of the things we have improved upon, from the “OEM” tops that were available in the 1990’s:

·4 layer fiberglass process - as compared to a single layer on the old tops.

·Speaker holes, safari windows, headliner, insulation, & sunroof as options

·We utilize the improvements in mfg since 1990’s in resins and gelcoats (lightweight yet very strong)

·New seals included with purchase – much better technology compared with 1990’s

·Available in Carbon Fiber

·1 year warrantee on defects – quality inspected and fitted before shipment

·3/16” tempered glass vs. Ό” glass on old tops

·Gator Guard coating – fights against the elements

·No smell from fiberglass or musty smell from being rotten or old

·Hinge studs on rear hatch will not ruin your roll bar

·Interior sill protection (galvanized & powder coated). We use galvanized then powder coated angle iron on all window sills, to ensure a proper seal between the bed and the top.

·All stainless hardware

·Full customer support available for on the phone installation

·Tops will fit 1994-1997 D90 ST NAS

·AND!!! If a piece gets broken, we’re here to replace it!

Our focus over the last year of development has been to build a better top, that will provide years of service to the avid Defender 90 owner. We are pleased to release the tops to the public for $3999, however we are offering the tops at a special price to folks who joined our mailing list. We will offer 10% off your order (not including shipping of $199 to all major US cities – commercial address) will your price being $3599 + shipping.

If you have any questions, or comments/suggestions, please feel free to call me directly on my cell at 941 421 9300 or my cell at 941 423 3813. We take all the major credit cards, and we also provide on-site restoration, fabrication, powder coating, and paintwork.

Thank you for your interest in our products and we hope to talk to you soon.

Sincerely,

Andy Nix

Jeez, I'd sell my mint fiberglass top for way less.

I don't think they'll have too many buyers at that price. Even a full Badger kit is much less than that.

Pretty sure the original top was not fiberglass.

Most of the factory tops I have seen are cracked, leak and are loud due to the crappy quality.

I could see someone paying that amount for a good quality top, I would have looked at one when I had my 97 VS adding a SW top since you could remove the fiberglass top in the summer and run a soft top... Kind of the best of both worlds without having to molest your 90

I would really like to see some pictures as it sounds cool, but not sure about the roverracks company.

It's always double what I think it's going to be... I expected/hoped 2k for this. Still nice to see someone is finally making these again.

Here are the pictures that were sent to me. You would think that they would have posted this info themselves to get the word out.

Anyone heard anything since the email? Haven't seen any postings or adverts for it since this original forum.

Update/D90 hardtop

Retrieving this old thread with the purchase of one of Andy Nix's fiberglass tops from Rover Racks. I had looked around at several LR original hardtops, and of course most had minor to serious problems and were simply too flimsy to stand up. While more expensive, I can reassure you Andy's tops are of much stronger to put up with the rigors of installation and storage. After a couple hiccups that Andy had a fantastic response to quickly resolve (slight differences in '97), the top is finally on and looks great. Thought you guys would like to see how it turned out.

Strongly suggest anyone thinking about a hardtop for a D90 look Andy's way. Andy was terrific to work with and will get my business in the future.

Hmmm, all the examples don't seem to have alpine windows.
