Guess Wilmington may now be topping the list of places not to import through...

Wow, hope it isn't the end of importing trucks. It'll be interesting to see where this goes

It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

That they seized all his trucks or so it seems, strikes me as odd. That could not all have issues and i make no suggestion any did. I assume since it is criminal (although you can never believe the news--it could be just civil forfeiture) we will get some sort of arrangement or charges filed so we can see what is going on. I also wonder who is next on their hit list. Seems just like the skyline guys, but also seems like they are very much in the grey if they are going after these (whereas skylines were most certainly illegal as they were not >25 yrs old and the one sort of legal way was limited to a few specific cars).

I understand rules are rules but damn, doesn't the government have anything better to do than police up a few Rovers? We have a sieve for a southern border, murders go uninvestigated in Detroit, and we are trillions in debt yet they go after the "hard core" criminal who would dare make a mockery of the 25 year rule? Heaven forbid we focus our combat power on the crap that actually matters......

LOL ... Lets ignore laws that you speculate may have been broken for a cheap stab at the government.

For all you know this could be a major crime bust for transporting illegals across the border and shipping them to Detroit to be murdered in a drug lords fantasy duck hunt.

wow, pretty shocking. There is always the chance that whatever drew their attention was not something he was even aware of, hope things turn out okay for the family.

You all knew this was inevitable.
Its easy to speculate about a competitor dropping a dime, but the reality seems to be that the Gvmt is after the illegal imports. The dealers are low-hanging fruit because all the trucks are advertised on eBay. It would take the most junior investigator like 30-seconds to figure out that a bunch of offerings on eBay were illegal.

Never had any interaction with him personally, but there are quite a few guys on and off the board who may disagree with that statement.

The news report is very light on details. No report of whether the vehicles are non-conforming.

I thought some of the word surrounding rover import scrutiny was some mix of truth and fiction, but having something like this reach the mainstream media lends some serious credence to the rumors.

The fact that CBP/DHS is actively hunting down people is a very, very bad sign.

I'm thinking if this was a larger government push on illegal import crackdowns, that we would have heard something happening elsewhere of this scale first. What are the odds they are going to start in little Wilmington. Not saying it wouldn't happen there, but I'm guessing it's not a larger government campaign.

It just amazes me that people choose to overlook, bend or break the rules when it suits them then complain when they get caught or complain that others who broke the rules are making it more difficult now that they want to do so themselves???

I don’t know the guy in the news story and have no idea if he's done anything good or bad but one of the comments on one of the news stories states "Aaron retitled two of my 2011 Puma trucks as '84s. He's a good guy that hasn't done anything illegal as far as I'm concerned.". So putting fake identities on trucks (if he did so of course) is not illegal and he's a good guy for doing it?

Now I am sure there will be a whole bunch of gnashing of teeth and moaning that it’s becoming more and more difficult to import legal trucks due to the amount of scrutiny needed to ensure they ARE legal.

This has been coming for a while and nobody should be surprised it’s happening.

Edit - just a casual glance at one of the pics in the posted news reports shows a galv chassis (or at least rear crossmember) under a ROW truck. If it came in that way then its illegal.

Wow! Almost bought a black 110 from him late last year prior to buying my 25 year old legally imported 110. That's too bad for him, I've had on and off conversations with him over the years and he does seem like an ok guy.

In browsing through his inventory, it appears that most all of his stock are true 25 year old ROW trucks that are refurbished by him and offered for sale. If this is indeed the case, does that mean that it is illegal to restore the truck to current specs after you get it stateside?

This will be very interesting!
