According to the local dealer there were more than half a million Mercedes imported into USA with the OM617. This number sounded high, but I saw 2 on the road today, so maybe so and these engines rarely go bad and as a result are available in lots of junkyards, obviously USA certified and a smooth quiet runner.

A 160 HP factory tuned engine out of a 1977 300SD won the land speed record in the same year averaging something like 157 MPH over around 4 days or so. It was mounted in one of the factory race cars. The record stood for a number of years.
I just re-read my comment with the rolleyes and hope you did not think it was saying it was illegal or a bad kit. I was trying to make light of the whole situation where it seems every diesel powerplant (and even a 4.6 gas motor) has been deemed "bad".

I am sure your numbers are right. I am also pretty sure Mercedes had a million mile club that had a lot of their diesel engines help cars get to. We had a bunch of W115's back in the 80s and man were they well built. Everything on them was stout. I would like to think that helping my dad work on those cars gave me an eye for things that are built good and those that are built very well.

I see a W123 wagon in the area that has a 300 TD. The body has rust all over and sits real low from shot springs but it still putters along. Every time I see it I think of making that guy an offer and getting one of your kits

Didn't think that at all.
Was just trying to add more info.
You're OK by me!

Just looked at the court records, if anything has been filed either against him personally or his business it isn't available yet.

Yeah, good point. To be honest, if it avoids a costly civil suit or criminal charges, I'll take the write-off any day.

They can classify them as at least the same year as the one they are replacing. If you buy a crate 350 V8 to replace the 305 or whatever, its technically a newer model. Even better if you buy an LSx motor.

Thought I would try and shed some good news on the early Land Rover import front. I had a 110 arrive Port of Baltimore via Liverpool on 3/17 and it was released yesterday. Plan is to pick her sweet ass up Monday if she's ready.

Because it is 100% (or extremely close to) original... - good to hear Clay.

I just would not want to own one of Aaron's trucks he has sold. Obviously the fed's are tracking these down if they have any non-original components as shipped! Especially a TDi or galvy frame done o/seas.

I wonder just how deep any silly federal investigation is going to go....sucks!

I'm just being punchy because I'm stuck in my office on a Friday afternoon which happens to be the first day above 50 degrees in a very longtime!

Barry should be in a good mood anyway today (celebrating killing Jesus) so maybe he even laughed at that comment.

What's the deal Barry, adding a 110 to the rover stable?
