Matt at Overland Engineering built a new basket for me 5-6 years ago. Tent is forward facing with 5-bar treadbrite on the back which makes a nice pee/gear platform. Awnings mount to either side. I have a ton of pics in this album:

David awesome photos thanks. Plus you have given me a new Defender dream. Standing on the roof rack and taking a pee. What can you not do with a Defender.

It is way better than using a pee bottle and spilling on your bag.

Shawn,

So what brand tent did you use, and how did you mount it to the top of your basket (because I would be in the same situation). Were you able to drive the car with it mounted, or did you store everything in back until you got to your camping spot?

More details please........

Thanks Shawn for the other pic. If you find anymore of your old set up I would love to see them.

Michael
You are asking for opinion so my opinion is not to touch the NAS basket. Fab something new. The NAS baskets are few and far between. Not worth hacking it up. You may hack it and then realize you don't like the tent, it is too heavy when mounted all of the time, sell the truck, or whatever. It would be a mistake.

David thought about it somemore and I agree. I was really not wanting to cut up the basket which is why I was trying to find out if anyone had put a tent on their SD rack with out cutting it up. I really don't want to do that. Of course I really don't want to spend the time or money on a new basket when I have a perfectly good one. I want it all. I have decided that if I don't want to make it work with the SD basket then I will fab a new one and put the SD one up for a while.

Thanks Michael
