Restoration Companies- 110 Build

Can someone address all of the various companies that do restorations of Defenders? In particular I am talking about: Arkonik, East Coast Defenders, Fusion (in CA), and East Coast Rovers. What are their reputations and differences? They all seem priced about the same, but I have heard various things about each.

Firstly this is posted in the wrong section.

Try tech or chit chat

Secondly, You might want to start by introducing yourself and with a little background about what kind of Defender you have or are looking for. Stock, modified, diesel, LS etc etc.

Either way you seem to have missed the company that should be on the top of your list.

phoenix37,
Thanks for your reply. My name is Mac and I am the previous owner of a 94 D-90. I sold it about 10 years ago when I had my first kid. Now, I am looking to get back "in" with a 110. I would like the LS3 engine (more reliable?) and updated seats, brakes, etc. for safety and reliability. I will look at Safari for sure, thanks for that as well.
Mac

For what its worth .... if you wanna get a truck build with a company inside the US, I would choose Stephen at SafariHP for sure.

Thanks RiverMike, Safari seems to be getting a lot of "votes" on this thread. At the prices they all charge, i just want to get this right.

UD would put a nice, brand new Cummins in there for you. None of that Chevy crapola.

Having a guy like you give recommendations should tell us that SafariHP does great work.

BTW. Just saw your new website.

Nice

I'm going through the same process right now... I'm having trouble getting a company to understand my "vision." I know exactly what I want, which I figured would make things a little easier, but its been interesting to hear from a few of the guys. Safari is high on my list. East Coast Defender never came back to me with a quote for the work, so they're out...

We (Second Daily) have partnered with Arete on our builds...not sure what you are looking for but we can price one out for you. Just priced a LHD D110 tdi200, full nuts and bolts resto, puma dash, power windows, heated seats, rhino lining, 4 forward seating RSS seats, heat/ac, exo/rack, etc. for $105k. That includes rebuilt motor and tranny, shipping to port, clearing customs and titling in FL.

A similar D90 V8 with puma, SVX grill, internal roll cage, power windows, etc. for a bit less.

A custom G-wagen 230 hardtop in OEM style for $45k.

All fully restored and titled.

Go local with Matt @ Roadside Werx in Englewood?
https://www.roadsidewerx.com/

Whoever you decide to go with, it might behoove you to verify ahead of time that there are any quality LR indie shops in the Denver area who will service a LR with a LS3 swapped into it. My understanding is that the most popular indie there won't touch anything that isn't U.S. market oem.

Shoot me a pm if you would like a build done and none of the other folks sound right to you. I donít do rap star defenders with quilted leather and suede headliners though so head elsewhere for that

JC's British services my trucks that I have in Denver and they're great. Not sure about an LS conversion truck, but I've seen Puma's in there. I don't think they do Series though.

I understand where these guys are coming from. Not too long ago I was going to drop serious coin on a build. Novice mistake.

Finding a reputable builder is tough when all you have to go by is flashy ads and showrooms with Nespresso machines.

Word of mouth or word of forum, go see the shops. I have had coffee with RiverMike, tea at Foley’s, and Safari let me wander around with a shopping cart, talk to the shop guys, and watched my dog when Steven and I ran around in an LS truck.

Figure out what you want before the build quote, trust your gut, and go for it.

BTW, for the price of the shop i was originally looking at, I have 1 2013 Puma, 1 recently restored Home Market (it is NOT ROW!) 127, 1 ROW 110 pickup, and one Ex-RAF 110 van.

Never bought anything from rivermike and have no affiliation, but if anyone follows his stuff on fb, itís like Landy porn. Iím sure a bunch of guys on here are doing good stuff, but seeing batches of parts on his page just back from cadmium plating shows some of the extent of his restorations.

Isn't there a fundamental difference in outcomes between:

1. Paying someone to restore a truck you already own.
2. Paying someone for an already retored truck?

I think in general #1 has had anywhere from mediocre to disasterous outcomes in the past 7 years I have been on this board.

#2 seems to have significantly more successful outcomes, and seems to be the business model practiced by the more successful shops.

I believe it's important to differentiate these two situations. The original poster seems to be asking for #1, which seems to be a little different from Rivermike's business model.
