Renault interested in buying Land Rover and Jaguar

We may be reading our manuals in French soon.

PARIS (Reuters) - French carmaker Renault (RENA.PA: Quote, Profile, Research) on Monday denied a British media report that said it was a possible bidder for Ford's (F.N: Quote, Profile, Research) luxury UK car brands Jaguar and Land Rover.
"Of course we absolutely do not confirm this information," a Renault spokesman said. "(Chief Executive) Carlos Ghosn said last week that the acquisition of a luxury brand would bring nothing to Renault or the Nissan alliance, in the short term," he said.

He was commenting following a report in London's City A.M. newspaper on Monday that said private equity firm Alchemy Partners was lining up a 3 billion-pound ($5.9 billion) bid for Land Rover and Jaguar and other possible bidders included Renault.

Renault shares were 1.1 percent higher at 108.84 euros by 0840 GMT, slightly outpacing the rest of the French blue chip index (.FCHI: Quote, Profile, Research) but broadly in line with the European car (.SXAP: Quote, Profile, Research) sector.

That would be interesting... Ford is struggling, so I would think that it is a very real possibility...

That would be the worst day of all bad days that ever did happen. Land Rover owned by the French....i would never hear the end of it when I went to military training. If that happens, they're going to start making the next generation of Defenders with corrugated aluminum siding and 2 cyclinder engines. Oh ya, and they are going to rename it to the "Surrender".

This sucks. Just the thought of it sucks. sucks, sucks, sucks.

P.S. I just threw up.

I don't know. The idea of a private equity group acquiring LR? ..... If the sum of the parts is worth more than the whole.........

The LR saga continues. What a bad time for the make to be in the midst of complete platform redevelopment. When they still utilized the old frame and common setup, the company was less dependent on parent groups. Now the build process is very much immeshed with the owner's other makes.

What does it really matter, though. The current SUVs they offer are no different than anything else on the market. LR brand managers would love nothing more than for "land" portion to go away, with all vehicles realigned under the "range" motif. The earlier 50 years is really just a lot of baggage they must begrudglingly acknowledge here and there. Range Rover Sport was the Trojan Horse.

While I'm french, I don't think it would be good to see LR under the Renault brand. Besides, Ford would lose their luxury foothold which they cannot afford to do at this time.

Funny, rumors of Fiat buying Land Rover are out there...

I bet that if anyone is to buy Rover, it will be the same folks who purchased the MG assets.

That is hilarious... LOL!

Honestly, I don't know if I even care what Land Rover makes as they go forward. I think I have already given up on them. I just hope parts availability doesn't dry up for our Defenders any time soon...
