Remove basket, keep ladders?

Has anyone removed their SD basket and built some type of frame to tie the rear ladders into the roll cage up front?

I don't want to reinvent the wheel if someone has already done it.

I did it for a customer a couple of years ago. I think I used 1" or 1.5" angle iron and tapered the ends and rounded the corners. I've also made a flat rack that connected the ladder to the front support and acted like a very low profile roof rack.

Hey - that's my d90.

Wolf did this for me. Love it.
Can get into my garage now and keeps everything solid and stable.

Thanks guys.

Wolf, that's pretty much what I had in mind. I also want to run two bars perpendicular to those so I can mount bike racks/kayaks/etc.

A few promising leads already, going to keep at it tomorrow...

Isn't that what the front crossbars are for?

Yes, but I prefer to mount the racks a bit further apart, especially when mounting kayaks
