Relocating to the UK...

There is a chance I may be relocating to the UK, in the areas of Whitley or Gaydon. Does anyone know of any resources or contacts for these areas, and what kind of lifestyle can I expect in these locations in terms of things to do, night life, meeting women-folk, etc... basically anything a 27 y/o single male would be interested in, and of course where all the good Land Rover folk are... I'm trying to inform myself as best as I can, because I may have to make the big decision within the next month or so... I'm excited.. but a little nervous at the same time.

I can tell you where all the salvage and midnight parts hoards are. Burton a big beer town is close enough. And the women seem to swoon to the sound of an American voice. So I would consider that in itself to take the move seriously.

I'd be glad to introduce you to some of the bespoken if you make it over there. And of course I may drop in on you if you have a spare room or closet I can stay in.

What kind of lifestyle here in the UK?

Taxed to death
Taxed off of the roads
over-run with immigrants
over-run with lazy dole dossers
all the decent trails being closed or downgraded (to bridleways/footpaths) by the councils
house prices dropping like stones
most jobs are not very secure due to the down turn in production (well, what production there is left here)

I'd stay stateside if i were you!

I'm just outside Swindon, Wiltshire (J16 M4) if you're around this way ever. :-)

Ive got a friend that owns a couple pubs in London if you are looking to meet some women folk. Be prepared for sticker shock since our dollar is in the toilet everything is going to seem very expensive.

Well, I've never gotten the chance to really travel abroad, so the opportunity to do so is appealing. I have nothing keeping me here... so if I were ever going to take the leap, now is the time.

Pendy, you'll be more than welcome to crash at my place if I make it over there...I'm trying so hard to not make some closet joke right now...

John, if I make it over that way I will certainly take you up on that.

I've got to be up at 4am tomorrow, so I can call and discuss some things regarding the interview, and all the details of me getting over there.

Jim, The job I'm supposed to be interviewed for is a vehicle design engineer position... so I hope that would have a little more security than a production based position.

Or what you take over there only goes half as far. Best bet is to buy season tickets to Manchester United matches and you will be happy...or at least I would.

One thing you can appreciate given Charlotte traffic and horrible drivers is that they actually obey and understand the consequences of driving slow in the slow lane and the bottle neck effect. Not once did I ever hit the brakes on the M3 or any other "interstate" except to exit.

As for your lady situation, there are something like 8 million in the London area now if that stat was credible...you should be able to find someone that can appreciate the dreads given those odds?

Keep us posted...

Gaydon is where the Rover Design/Engineering facility is,so.......................are you maybe interviewing with them? I have been to the facility and it is awesome. The British Motor Heritage Museum is located there as well. Lots of cool old Brit Iron.
London has really good talent, but closer to home would be Birmingham, not too bad either. I say go for it. Things are not going so well here right now, as we all know, so what have you got to lose?

Yeah, you'd hope so. (fingers crossed for ya!)

remember though that LR have (last couple of weeks i think) started to stop production on Fridays of RR/disco/freeloader (due to the downturn), although apparently (according to the LR comics) the defender production is on the up.
