Registering a freshly imported 110 in NYS

Long time lurker, newly addicted member. Anyone have recent experience registering a freshly imported defender in NYS? I just purchased a 1989 110 which was imported by the seller but never registered/titled in the US as it just cleared customs (judging by the list of documents, the seller has a clear uk title and necessary documents). I've been studying the dmv but wondering if anyone had some first hand experience/cautious tales.

Cheers

Welcome Justin...Im not expert but thought the person that imported it has to title/register it first.

Might vary state to state, my friend registered his 90 in CT with no prior US registration with import docs in someone else's name without issue.

I've seen it work both ways in the state of Virginia. The state hates this pattern because they cant pick up the sales tax twice. Your seller probably wanted to avoid the hit as well. The only harm in trying is the waste of time at the DMV.
