registering a 300 tdi in california

hi guys
i've read all the posts on here in regards to registering a 300 tdi in california.
i have my eye on a 85 d110 3 door tdi
seems a little tricky....
anybody been flat out denied and not allowed to register their vehicle here?

I went to the DMV an registered mine with no problem it had previously been registered in another state which I think helped the process

I thought it too would be a big drama. My truck has a 4.6 V8 but I asked the DMV agent when I registered my 110 in Napa what would have changed if the truck had a diesel in it and she said nothing other then that I wouldn't have to do the SMOG. This was almost 2 years ago. Please let us know how it turns out.
