Really sick and tired of Jeeps

So I haven't worked through the emotions on this yet, but down here in the San Antonio Texas area there are TONS of jeeps. Everywhere I look they are just there!...Go to the coffee shop...Pizza joint, hell I can't drive a mile without passing one or two.

So my home page is set to the WSJ and I see this article, http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...DDLE_Video_Top. and I get ill. But you know maybe its good that LR isn't so concerned with marketing, I mean there is method to every madness.

When I was driving home this girl is driving tword me in her Jeep and does the wave with the two fingers from the steering wheel, (you know the wave) and I think to myself, does she even know what shes waving at...? I would bet serious money that half the Jeeps owners think I'm driving a Jeep...

In the end it doesnt really matter...I know I'm better than them.... Just kidding (maybe not)...
Time for a beer...

I had the same experience the first week I drove in town with my Defender. A girl in jeep waved and thought to myself, "I don't think I know her I wonder why she waved. Oh, she thinks I in a jeep." a few minutes later I pull into a parking lot and a guy is looking at my 90 and looks confused. "What year is that?" I tell him it's a '94. He looks even more confused. "Oh, he thinks it's a jeep." I don't think a Defender driver has ever mistaken a jeep for a Defender.

I just wave and make new friends along the way. If by chance we get talkin', then it's down to business.

yeah, I'm just raggin on stupidity in general..."the Jeep thing" is just easy....and ya know I thought people in Ohio (no offense) drove bad this area is crazy. yesterday I saw a guy pull out onto the freeway from the shoulder in an F150 without lookin as I was coming down a merge ramp. almost took out a mail truck as the F150'S front bumper hit the mail trucks rear wheel. I think I'm going to clock tower one day, these folks just don't get it. It makes me think Ron White is a god!

Sounds like some friendly people, wasting there time waving at pompus asses. Who really fucking cares what brand of junk you drive anyway. Maybe the reason there are so many Jeeps here in America, is because they are made here in America, asshole.

Bill, I know where you are coming from, but I think it's a good thing that Jeep is expanding beyond western markets. There's so few marques left that have viable overland capable vehicles; it's like a disappearing water hole on the savannah during dry season. If Jeep has to consider markets like Eastern Europe with horrible infrastructure and vast uninhabited spaces, then the will have to keep rugged 4WD features and capability in the engineering of future vehicles. Anything targeted for the West is going to be diluted over time as you know since 4WD is not necessary in a paved country like ours. US only market 4WD's are the decaf of the overland world.

I don't hate Jeep. I started life as a Jeep owner, and Rover has common DNA with Jeep. We're like siblings that bicker. What I do like about this article is that Jeep is getting early to fend off global domination by Toyota. That's the real objective here. A hilux on every gravel driveway is damnation in my mind.

The more 3rd world opportunities that pop up like this as real market growth for the west the better. Just another wake up call to Sollihul and Tata to not completely castrate the product lines because there is still money to be made out there. If Jeeps sell like hot cakes in Russia, then D90's would sell like "Hot Now" donuts too.

Agreed...I was poking fun at my self last night. I started out wanting a Jeep 15 years ago but stayed with a pickup as it worked for "the job". Really love my D90...and part of it is because not everone has one.

Besides, you don't need a good reason to have a girl wave at you...

Well just the other day I was right next to a LR3 at a light. I looked over and waved and she could have cared less about my 110. I get more interest in my vehicle from Jeep people than LR3 or Range Rover drivers. I bet the high end Land Rover owners think I'm in a Jeep more often than not. They could care less about the history. At least the Jeep owner might actually wheel it, which would give us that in common.

Good piece, Ohio needs the work. Wonder what their going to do with the plant in Ohio. Thats a huge facility and I doubt they have a need for it as they did back in the day.

Yeah I watched that the other night - good stuff. He's an idiot for allowing Jennifer Lopez to be their spokeswoman for the relaunch of FIAT in the US though - now they're like OH SHIT no dudes want this car now...let's make the Abarth. No thanks.

I think you have a point. I dont think they buy it for the history or for that matter what it can do, they buy it for the price tag. I got out of the high end spit and polish because of work and the perception of others as it relates to a 100k+ vehicle. I like my 90 spit and polished just fine. No one questions what I dive now...well they ask why? but you know...gotta love what you drive.

You are incorrectly discounting the frenzied rush of male hair dressers and fashionistas that are giggling their way to Fiat dealerships nationwide.

I don't think he was calling you an asshole for not driving an American car. I for one love jeeps, my first car was a 1969 CJ5....had two cj7 and three wranglers over the years. Had many more LR's and like them MUCH better but I still like the Jeeps. If someone waves at me ESPECIALLY A CHICK I just wave back, always looking for friends. The whole nice jeep thing doesn't bother me, I just think it is funny that's all.

My first love with off road was the CJ series. Opted for a Toyota 4X4 before Toyota started naming their trucks. I couldn't afford a CJ then and needed the pickup to make bread to put on the table...seems like forever ago.

I just spent about 10 minutes yesterday trying to explain to my boss that Land Rover is not made by Toyota and that Range Rover is not a separate brand.

I'll admit that I have shunned my Jeep past and rarely wave to Jeepers. Although I secretly want a 4 door JK.

Ummm...no. I'm pretty sure his point was that they are made here so there are a lot here as compared to Land Rovers.
Just like in the UK you see a lot more Land Rovers than Jeeps.

BTW, I don't have an opinion on your assholiness.
