I have photos of all the documents for the truck, and the VIN and names etc matches up. The floor in the Subito photo's matches up with the new photos he sent today. I checked the image properties on the photos I got today and they were taken today with an iphone.

I just requested more photo's of some other areas, lets see if he delivers. I expect he should.

One thing not discussed here, though the engine looks original, part of the VIN spells out exactly what model engine was installed at the factory.

I'd get that analysed before i proceeded any further.

I did that. VIN matches up, 200TDI, which it appears to be from the photos.

Does this look normal to everyone? I guess it had an undercoating and they removed it where the VIN is. Trying to avoid any issues at Customs.

thanks!

Not sure which web site, but it was only a few days ago. As soon as I saw your posted pictures what stood out was that watermark "Subito" . But I am sure it was on FB. I am on something like 10 Land Rover groups.

Ok no worries.

I just got about 50 pictures from the seller this morning, all seems legit. I also Google'foo'd him and found many small bits of info that all correlate as expected.

My saga is nearly over. 3 months later. Just made payment for shipping/customs today ($5400 FML). Should have it at my house on Friday.

Things I have learned...

1. Shipping takes way longer then expected
2. Don't ship in a container. All it did was cost me a lot of extra money, and delays. I thought I was doing the right thing by protecting my truck.
3. Customs hates Defenders.
4. I am really really really excited to finally get one of these after years and years of wanting one.

The container would've made sense only if you had other junk to throw in there. Maybe you squandered the opportunity to buy a Fiat Topolino and ship that for free at the same time.

If that just went RORO, wouldn't you have avoided those costs?

It went in a shared container with a Prius and two motorcycles. This was arranged by the shipping company, I don't know who those people were.

By shipping it in a container I spent extra money on the actual shipping charge, plus $950 which was my share of the customs inspection fee's. I had no idea about this until it was too late.

The container was selected for a Contraband Enforcement Team exam which meant it had to be sent to a private entities warehouse which took 21 days to inspect. At which point we were paying $100 a day for the container out of port, plus fee's at this warehouse, plus I think $1400 for the inspection. Had I go RORO it would have just sat in the port parking lot awaiting inspection. The fee's would have been minimal.

This was all new to me. The reason I went with this company is on the Italian side they had a liaison who was extremely helpful in dealing with the vehicle sellers. Almost none of them spoke English, nor did they want to deal with some random American emailing them. The Italian export process is also a little weird which he helped smooth over. They were much more willing to deal with a fellow Italian. Without the liaison I don't think I could have pulled it off with Italy.

Lesson learned, next Defender I import will be coming RORO. Learn from my mistakes.
