Ranger Special Operations Vehicle

The Kentucky State Police currently holds a weapons carrier RSOV (Diesel Defender), excellent condition, very low miles. We are considering entering it in our annual surplus vehicle auction next fiscal year, but are looking for some ideas on value and level of interest. Is this an item anyone on the forums would be interested in?

I am not an expert; Google is your friend here. It is a weapons-carrier RSOV, 4 cyl diesel, crazy rollcage, no doors/windshield. I am now pretty much out of info. It is a ball to drive, runs like a champ.

Pictures would help. Another thing that most will want to know is how much rust it has.

Will the Kentucky State police be able to convey the truck as a road legal vehicle with a title ?
That will have a great deal to do with its value.

I have a few pics of them, I might be able to dig one up. But you can see a few on google search.

Basically, they are the Wolf vehicles with no roof, roll bar, weapons turret on top. Very cool. But not the type of thing you would want for a daily driver, more of a collectable thing.

Special B-pillar section, cage, walk on bonnet cover or tyre carrier, etc...

Doug is correct in that the title status is key to valuation

300Tdi/automatic transmission (maybe R380)

This presents an interesting case for the 300Tdi

These are non road legal vehicles due to minor missing details like windshield, wipers etc.

I would gladly pay $5,000 sight unseen and throw a farm use sign on it.

These vehicles are easily modified to those road requirements. the question they are asking is will it be eligable for road legal titling if presented to state inpection for safey and emissions?

In NC wouldn't even need a windshield, as long as it didn't have wipers.

No. I will do you a favor and pick it up next weekend.

If I had the scratch and a place for it this is something I would strongly consider.

If I had the spare cash, I'd love something like that. I've seen several vehicles around here without windscreen. Just wear goggles like "Rat Patrol".

Why did the Kentucky State police need to acquire this in the first place?

Expecting border skirmishes with neighboring states???

One of my Soldiers back in my old unit at Fort Carson was previously a mechanic with a unit that utilized these trucks (not the 75th...other dudes). He told me that the 50cal rattled the trucks to pieces. The Defender bodies were not designed to take this kind of shock and shit broke on them frequently. He did not speak highly of them.

I have a friend who used these in desert patrol situations ... they would mount guns much lower to reduce the silhouette .. the one pictured seems more setup for a Hollywood movie ...

Sorry about the quality here... iPhone photo of a 4x6 from about 1999.... you'd do better to look up the modern pics online. But this is one of the original ones as it was in use.

EDIT: And Chris is right, even with low miles, they lived rough lives. One reason they ordered them was for their portability in various aircraft. They drove them... roughly.

If it's the one I know of, it has everything in the above photo except the actual weapon.

Do you have any pictures of it? Hopefully it doesn't look like this.
