Ralphs 110

My mechanic in Katonah does work on some of Ralphs cars. He has or had a wicked green 110 that was in the shop a few years ago. Must be a closet LR guy.

There is a man in that picture??

Very cool. I had a similar experiance but not as high brow. My 64 IIa was used in the Gander Mountain spring catalog (pages 14 and 25). My buddy is one of their photographers and now a DII owner. I just sold the IIa to fund my 97 DI "White Camel" and I've already been asked to be in the mext shoot.

So... I'm living the lifestyle to which Ralph Lauren and Gander Mountain customers aspire?

Who knew.

The Gander Mountain shoot reminds me of Goose Creek State Park

That was good for a laugh. If it were, I wouldn't admit it.

Thanks, I'm very happy with it and it honestly is the best DI I've ever seen or driven.

Waveriden...bingo! The shoot was in and around Goose Creek SP last year.

As for the aspirations question, I think it's more about the photographers like a Land Rover as a prop as it screams adventure and is unique enough to catch the eye of the consumer.

Wander, great looking photos! your shoot looks cooler than mine. Mine was full of arrogant pricks from NY.

Wasn't Ralph Lauren one of the two non-white-paint original NAS 110 owners?

I'm not positive but I think that is correct. He is a major collector of auto's and if you look around his stores or the "polo" areas in department stores that is always photo's of cars and they are almost always of his collection.

The credit for the shots goes to my buddy John, the photographer. His vision of the image he wants is amazing. For the shot of the guy with the dog and barbed wire, John went to the location a month in advanced and staged the fencing and then sprayed some various chemicals on the wire to age it quickly and then left it there so it would look natural in the scene. I wish I had just 10% of his ability.

I think he has a Camel Trophy inspired idea for the next shoot that will feature my DI, should be fun!

Waste of time. Once the LR was parked near it, the wire would have rusted instantly.

Amazing vintage auto collection. Has a good chunk of it on his website right now plus the sound of every engine (which my 18 month old loves). Plus he has an awesome Indian motorcycle in the New Canaan store up here in CT. A shame that it's decor rather than being ridden.

From articlesbase.com - the initial export batch was 525 Defender 110 County Station Wagons. 500 to the United States and 25 to Canada. All the vehicles were white (except two specifically painted black for Marcos J. Soto and Ralph Lauren).

RL has had a bunch of his cars in the Victory by Design series. I highly recommend it for any car guy.

What I read in Autoweek when they did an article on his garage was that all the sports cars were in his garage on Long Island. He drives a lot of them.
But the interesting thing is that he has a ranch near Telluride Colorado and on the ranch he has only trucks, army jeeps, and Land Rovers. THOSE are the vehicles that I would love to see in detail.

Was his Green 110 mentioned above a NAS 110 painted green?

I just got contacted about using my Series for a "high end clothing company" photo shoot in Richmond next week. Hope it works out, I'm excited.
