Rallye Dakar Defender

Some pics of an awesome Defender used by a danish Team at the 2005 Dakar rallye.
First they wanted to go with their Special Volvo, but they had an accident on their way to spain...
So they asked german LR specialist Matzker for their Rallye Raid Defender:
http://www.rallyeraid.de/kitcardetails/source/1.html
http://www.rallyeraid.de/start.html
http://www.matzker.de (Defender Accessoires,...)
200hp, 400nm torque...Td5. 0-60mph in 9-10 seconds! 170km/h max
No big Problems. About 50% of the participants didn't finish. They started as no 130 and finished as no 35!
Everyone can buy one. Price starts at 50000 EURO...

Michael

Anybody know what those black 5 star wheels are? I looked but couldn't find a link for them. I think they'd be a bit unique with all the black wagon wheels out there and I refuse to put anything shiny on the D that isn't made of stainless.

Thanks in advance.

If you are talking about the Mach 5 rims they are made by MJ Lee. We import them and have sold a few sets here in the US. They come unpainted and powder coated but it's best to get them unpainted since they might get scratched during shipping.

Don't know about the other one.

I have read there were problems with the MJ LEE wheels breaking.

That's strange, they use these rims for racing so you would think they are good rims. Scorpion uses them, Tomcat Motorsports uses them, MJ Lee uses them even the german company that Michael indicated above uses them. They've been used on rovers during the paris-Dakar, etc etc... go figure!

I know, perhaps it was a bad "batch" of wheels?

Maybe!

I should probably send a set to Doug Walker and have him try it on his next event.

John,
Nice site, gonna end up sending you money in my future I'm sure...
I like those rock/tree sliders because my fiance` doesn't want me to give up the running boards because she can't get in the truck without them but I hate the clearance with them. Those seem to serve 2 purposes for me

Damn, John -- you and Adrian have been busy. I like those waffle boards, and some of the other new stuff from Scorpion. Do you guys do email updates like EE does when you get new products? I want on the list!

Hi!

Here another nice rim www.nakatanenga.de .
But I think the best rim for Defenders ist the standard Heavy Duty 130 / Wolf Rim.
They also used them as spare in the Rallye Dakar...
Here the Website of the Volvo team and their project. There are also some Defender pictures in their gallery...

There have indeed been issues with Mach 5's cracking around the welds here in the UK. However, I understand this was when Matt used to buy in all his rim outers. These days, he makes his own rims.

The wheel alongside the Mach 5 is a standard LR 'Boost' alloy painted black.

The black wheel on the white Defender is a 'Performance Alloy' made in Australia.

Correctcion: Scoprion USES them. Richard has them on his LR for over 4 years now w/o any problems.

It really doesn't matter if SR uses them or not, this is a thread about the Mach 5 rims.

Doug - you could always paint the drums bright red or yellow, that would look soo bling!! We don't send out emails on new products, at least not yet. Right now we are having a professional redo our website (it needed a makeover ).

Cool John, just make a post when you get the site up, and to keep everyone informed you could post in the Vendors loft when you get new products. No one minds an extra post about cool Land Rover products here and there, but allot of people hate it when they are mass e-mailed, so if you make a list ask here if people want to be on the list, then add them on and e-mail them don't just add them because they are on the d-90 source, we have had this problem before.

Hey Mike,

I sent over a list of sale products offered to D90-Source members only, did you or Chris receive it? I sent it to Admin@D-90.com.

Let me know, thanks.

John

HMMM that would go to Chris, and not me if he's too busy I might be able them too the 4 x 4 Adventure Gear thread in the vendors section. But first try e-mailing it to chrisvonc@d-90.com he checks that e-mail more often I think. Or I can bug him if he doesn't reply here.
