Quick Importation question

Hi, ive reserached and have come fairly close to getting an answer and have PM Doug as well.

Im stationed here overseas and looking to purchase a D90 (86-89) to export in the next year or two when i get back to the States. I have found some really nice ones but of course the engines have been swapped.

Both of these vehicles are original 2.5 TD. One of them has a dedender 200TDI installed now and the other has a Disco 200 TDI installed.

I guess my option is to put the 2.5TD back in when i leave, but the question is since the original engine was a TD any chance these swapped engines will make it through customs.

Any help is appreciated........... these cars dissapear quickly.

thx

Safest to assume that CBP know the difference between the TD and Tdi and return it to original spec.

Doesn't stop you from shipping the parts over for installation later.

I would buy now, and use the year or so to uncover any flaws.

CBP will simply take pictures and send them to the dedicated staff @ Land Rover in New Jersey. It will be Land Rover who passes judgement.

Throw a non-running TD in there and split a container with someone else who is importing a D90.

I think you can import your 200 TDI in the same container as 'parts' (along with any other second hand bits you might be interested in swapping in later).

They are getting pretty good at spotting non original configurations and VIN decoding.

Why not contact me in the Netherlands ...

I have 2 fully original LHD Defender D90's for sale both 1985.

One is a 2.5 NA Diesel ( one owner) in white, all original, excellent frame, never been painted.

Other one is a 2.5 Petrol with RARE Factory AC, build for SAUDIE and only 66000 miles, in green

Some sage advice there as it doesn't need to run. I have imported trucks where the engine was in the bed not under the hood. I advise against putting defenders in containers. Ship ro/ro and avoid the inevitable intensive exam fee's. If you have a later engine to ship, put it on a pallet and ship it with the truck on the same ship. I do it regularly.

thanks

Thanks fellas,

I appreciate the quick responses. Like i told doug its damn near impossible to find these defenders out in the UK without a new engine. I think im going to expand my search to mainland Europe as i found out Italy is a the promised land for defenders. If not ill have the engine swapped when i leave.

Thanks again guys.

PS probably coming to the NL this weekend. Check your PM

Oops...is my sarcasm showing?

The 1st red 90 might not be bad; the bumper is not my style, and the decals can be scraped off.

What I'd really like to see is a little upskirt picture....to see what kind of frame and door-bottoms it has.

I would not buy a 90(or any Rover) off a website without an inspection or some good pictures of key areas.

Good luck in your search.
