Question for the BMW enthusiast

What year(s) do the 330i has the M54 engines? From what I read it has proven to be one of the most bullet-proof modern BMW engines. I'm asking because I'm looking for used BMW daily driver. I have no experience with BMW. Does the rear wheel drive easy to drive in snow? What year(s) should I be looking at (and avoid). Plus should the mileage be under 80K miles, or any miles is OK? Additionally, I'm interested in automatic since I have a manual transmission already on a Defender. Thanks in advance.

we had to put bags of sand in my old roommate's 330 for him to get into our old driveway in the snow. After a few storms we used my Audi with Quattro exclusively whenever we needed to go somewhere.

RWD is fun in the snow...it's nowhere near the ability of AWD/4WD or even really FWD. It's the most fun, the least capable.

I was just going to say that! I'd go xi if you need a 3 sedan for the winter, but there is no comparison for fun factor than a 330 cic if you don't really need the 4 doors and awd, but you definitely won't be enjoying it much in the snow. '01-'06 for the M54's I believe, but chip is the guy to really talk to.

Most of the time, its about the tires more than anything else...
