Tony, in that case, next trip, get one at the Airport for like $ 50.00 some even come with like a 30mins sim card for that area. And don't worry about Quad Band as you will not use the 850 band often if any at all.

I have a nokia 7280 ( 6"x1"x1", 900/1800/1900 bands ) you can test it on your next trip if you want, but having a Smart Phone, will allow you to skype, email ,etc via WiFi

I have a blackberry 8830 world phone I've been using over here, I won't need it in a couple of weeks, and it's already unlocked pm me your address if you can wait that long and I'll send it to ya. It might have a bit of sand in it but it works well.

Thanks, Bill, PM inbound. Next excursion isn't until mid-August, so that should work fine.

BTT -- anyone have experience unlocking phones? Seems like there are 7 jillion people on craigslist that will happily do it for $40, this must be doable at home, right??

Tony, I cleaned out all my info on the Blackberry. It will be heading your way in the next few days. It's already unlocked for use on any network.

depending on the phone you can either buy an unlock code on ebay for $2-5 or the original carrier will give it to you if you ask.
i.e. anybody with a tmobile account (thats been active 90 days or more) can call with a tmobile locked phone asking for the unlock code which they email to you.
--------------

also, Tony I have a RAZR (original one) thats unlocked and quadband you can have if for whatever reason the BB doesnt work out.
