Unhappy Puppy with demodex mange

Our Boxer/Vizsla/Staffordshire Terrier pup has been suffering from demodex mange since September. Vet originally said it would clear up on it's own, as is often the case with this type of mange. Since then, it has gotten worse, and about December/January we started treating for it. We've got shampoos, lime-sulphur dip, mite murder cream, mite avenge shampoo, mite avenge post-bath treatment, and immune supplements. Not to mention anti-itch spray and skin ointment for open cuts from scratching.

Nothing seems to be working. Has anyone else ever had to deal with this? What worked? We've got it to the point where it isn't getting any worse, but I'm bathing the poor guy ever other day, rotating through the various treatments, and THEY STINK! And he has very little fur. Kinda' running out of patience.

I just googled demodex and found amitraz. Sounds like a total PITA to use. Is it effective?

Second on getting you some ivermectin if you need, unofficially of course.

Also, check out Vetricyn for surface treatment of the wounds.

You can buy Ivermectin in a feed store.
Please don't give it to your dog until you speak to a veterinarian. It can be toxic to dogs.

If it works for Shayne, it will work for your dog.

Update: just got home from vet. New prescription for ivermectin, and he may have torn his acl. Got referral for a dermatologist too.

Good luck, ivermectin fixed it for my pup. Poor guy had a hard time getting over it... lots of scrapings, ivermectin, fish oil tabs and greek yogurt. His coat and skin are fantastic now.

My Boxer had demodex mange when I adopted him, he hated the syringe of ivermectin by itself so i squirted it all over his food, right before he chowed down.

A few weeks later he was right as rain. It takes time and it's frustrating, but in the end it all works out!
