possible buy?

I am still looking for my first purchase and may have found a nice one. I have seen on this forum where badge numbers and/or VIN's are posted. The vehicle seems really clean but the buyer seems annoyed that I am "suspicious" which then makes me suspicious. There was also some connection with Keith at Copely...so now I am really suspicious (just kidding Keith, waiting on your reply to my last email).
He is the third or fourth owner of the 97 wgn Consiston Green badge number 0198. Does anyone know this vehicle or am I taking the wrong approach?
Thanks!

Craig,

Sometimes the delivery might make a seller flinch, sometimes you ought to flinch *LOL*

I am not far from you and if you need a second set of eyes , I'll gladly go with you to look at it ( assuming is in or near the Socialist Republik of Marylandistan )

What are the miles on it at this point? Around 60k?

Aside from any reputation the truck may have or have not, post up some pics, vitals, and a price and we'll be pretty honest...

Rugbier - thanks for the offer. Lets see what other info we get here before I ask that favor from you.

rijosho - Here is what I know. 93K, leaking a little oil and needs a valve cover gasket, all else is reported in excellent shape. Vehicle looks supper clean. Anything I should ask?

He is asking 37,500

I will try and get some photos

Thanks so much for the feed back.

Craig

IMO 37grand is too much for a almost 100k truck.

Ok, so assuming it is a great rig mechanically sound and rust free, what is more reasonable for a D90 with almost 100K.
By the way, he is willing to come down off his number but I don't know how much yet.

Thanks,

Craig

100k mikes should just about always be in the 20s unless the thing is absolutely immaculate and you have absolutely no reservations about the vehicle. Not a good deal at all. Not that you need to buy a "great deal" but that is a crappy price w/out knowing more.

Offer 28k, I think those copley guys sell okay trucks, its a land rover. My Defender needs a rear diff for no apparent reason at 81k, its hit or miss with Land Rovers. I sware my RRC is the fucking antichrist but it wont die either.

It is always difficult to determine these prices. Maybe I should have Rugbier check it out with me.

Is a valve cover gasket an issue? (Sorry, not much of a gear head)

What other info to determine price would you want to have?

So if it is overpriced, do you guys see any "fair" deals right now on eBay or Autotrader? Or in these classifieds?

I am really thankful for your responses.

Craig

Lots of nice trucks pass through this site. I dont know, seems all the Rovers up north are rust buckets. If you arent a gear head youll become one or sell out. Valve cover gaskets are a breeze.

Valve cover gaskets are about the simplest thing on the truck to change. About as difficult as changing the wiper blades or filling it with gas. Couple mins with a phillips screw driver and its done. Surprised anyone wouldn't have replaced those if leaking when trying to sell a truck for over 35k.

I thought that they were pretty simple but the fact that it wasn't done is what made me ask. I may take it to get it looked at this week. I will keep you posted.
