Possibility? in Vermont

I had spoken to someone a while back that told me he wanted to do a trip the length of Vermont using only dirt roads. I do not recall if he read a book/article about doing it or spoke to someone who did it or just came up with the idea himself. Has anyone heard of this, done it or is it even possible? I have been thinking about it for a while and would like to give it a shot, I understand it may not be possible to do 100% dirt but was hoping someone could give more info. Or better yet anyone else want to do it?

I would be into that trip. Let me know if you find out any more about it. Also how long did you think it would take?

You might want to do a search on "Trans America Trail", you might get some routes from the motorcycle guys.

It can't be that hard... Vermont is smaller than San Bernadino county. I guess it would be the same as a trip from San Diego to El Centro using the back roads, or a trip on the Mojave Road.

It's something that guys like me who grew up out west have a hard time grasping, how small the states are out there, and how close the big cities are to each other.

Sounds like a cool trip regardless!

Check the VOT thread here and read up through this site - there are TONS of "ancient" trails throughout Vermont

We went from Manchester Vt. To Woodstock Vt. Entirely on dirt trails as part of the Land Rover Driving School at the Equinox. I don't have specific road details or I'd pass them along.

There are snowmobile trails that can take you well into Canada from southern Vermont. It's certainly do-able.

I may be planning something similar to this in the summer (if I keep my truck)... I know how these things can get with everyone jumping in but keep me in the loop if you don't mind. That being said trying to coordinate 15 trucks with any sort of schedule is pretty much hopeless. I would try and keep it to 3-4 trucks max.

Living in VT I don't think it's possible to do the whole states without touching blacktop....you could do a fare portion but not all of it.

------ Follow up post added February 24th, 2013 03:10 PM ------

I'd be up for it in the 101 also if you do it

Thanks for the replies. At least it seems like it will be easy to get a convoy together. Makes me want to do a lot more research and try and get this going. Perhaps all dirt is a bit of a long shot but even so it could be a great run. If anyone finds more info for a trip like this let us know. Good link Josh thanks.

I'd be in for this as well, but I doubt it's current legitimacy. Many old class 4 roads have been shut down or closed off.

I try to get to Vermont as much as I can so would be interested where this goes.

The concept sounds great but not sure how far the dirt roads will get you at least from my time up in the Stowe/Burlington area. Maybe up thru the eastern side of the state?

Would you guys like me to plan some stuff out I know the I know the nothern and middle part of the state well but not the southern area? Would be great to do this along with the British Invasion in Stowe this year. It's the year of the Land Rover at the Invasion.

------ Follow up post added February 26th, 2013 12:50 PM ------

We could make it a cool trip. Hit DAP, Rover's North, GMR, and some of the British pubs.

Stowe is a great town and I usually have a place to stay there. Didn't know Land Rover was the focus for this years event. The only problem for me is that usually goes down in September which is wicked busy for me with the kids sports and back to school.

If you guys do it and I can make it I would be stoked to get up there.

It'd be very cool to start a couple days before the Invasion and make our way up to B.I. and finish with that.

I will set it up lets say start in southern VT on Thursday morning and work out way to to the show field for Friday afternoon drinks party. I also bought some land about 30 minutes from the show field that has soon good off roading we can use.

I will start setting it up. Any special stops that any one wants to make?
