Uh anyone want to trade a brand new TGV 2.8 and Ashcroft trans for an LS3 and running gear? If I had the money, I have 2 110s; a slow reliable diesel and an LS3. A man can dream I suppose

I'm almost tempted to put together an LS3 package for you just to get the HS2.8.
But alas, I have little time because I'm getting things in order for a job transfer.
What's up with the engine anyway? Change of direction on a project?

No change really. There's just something about a GM V8 that makes me drool. I'll likely keep the HS and get the project done. Having said that, it's very tempting. I should at least put a few hundred miles on her before I make any rash decisions 😁

I'd like to have one in the corner of the garage as a spare.
But if my HS2.8 fails again, I'll find something else to drop on there. Maybe a MB.

What problems have you had with it? Was it from M&D? PM with any details...not trying to get thread off track

Curious too. My 2.8 from M&D has been great so far, although it sounds like it takes 20k miles to dial it in and work out the bugs. I know one other forum member having 2.8 issues as well.

Just 8 months old and 11k miles on the engine, the timing belt failed at 1900 rpm. The engine grenaded so bad it snapped rocker arms, broke the rocker shaft in two places, and of course swallowed valves.
Prins had the same thing happen to theirs and found a second one preparing to do the same thing.
I bought my engine from Stephen Cahill in Canada.

Still in the crate. When I got it. It was new direct from the factory.

So change/check timing belt more often than a Tdi?

There are a lot of these engines out there. It was a production engine for Ford. Never heard of timing belt problems.

Mine was a crate from M&D. I've had other uncommon issues, but never timing belt. I replaced my belt at 75k and it looked brand new. still have it hanging in garage for reference. didn't even have cracks or wear on it.

I suspect the snapped belt may be due to tension issues. what did the belt look like luis when the timing case came off? was it a straight break or did it look shredded along entire length?

I do think there may have been a period of end-of-assembly line issues where the belt and timing are done, down at the Brazil plant. I believe every 2.8 crates should have all timing checked before installation.

So true, man can dream, if someone has two Defenders then it would be worth having 2 totally different engines on them..

It was shredded and the entire belt was saturated with oil. It appeared as though the front seal had failed and was weeping oil profusely.
Explains why I was going through a quart every week.
International did not honor the warranty because I was using B99 fuel and it was not installed by a certified shop.
