I guess PM has never actually crossed a desert. I would have disqualified every one of those vehicles that relies on an ECU. And the Hummer H1 no way, too heavy for deep sand I would think.

The VW Beetle, number three in the article, must have been ahead of its time being the first with an ECU.
And I bet the water pump was prone to failure too.
