How about those c clips chain driven transfer case that hangs down by the rear link mounts whimpy frame. The only thing a wrangler has on the Defender is the front suspension setup.

What gets me Pissed Off is not that their comparing the two vehicles, they have their differences and both are capable off-road vehicles.
The freakin problem is their comparing two vehicles that are not sold in the U.S. of A..... I saw more wranglers in the little country of Portugal with TURBO DIESEL ( the MB CDI more than likely ) motors than I could shake a portuguese sausage at.
Of course we all know the BUULLSHIT reasons the new Defender is not sold in this country, but someone explain to me please..... Why Americans can't purchase an American Jeep Wrangler with a CDI, but Europeans and other countrys can, amongst many other interesting vehicles not available to the US.
Someone in Govrnment needs to get a serious Bitch slapping, don't tell me that if you flip that wrangler on its roof that you won't get the same headache that you would with a Defender flipping. I mean who the F... is making these decisions anyway?
Really disappointed!

Notice there is a Paid For ad at the end of the article. Me thinks it was a skewed contest.

Its not the government that keeps diesels from selling here. Look at VW,MB,BMW,Audi are all starting to sell diesels. Its that most Americans don't want them because they know little about them.

The government is a big part of it and the people also have something to do with it.

I understand what you mean about the diesels here in America, but that's a totally different issue on what's keeping the Defender from the states..... their beef is the rollover safety of the vehicle, does not pass dot regs...BULLSHIT!
Back to the diesels, I could go on and on about this subject, because I was just over in Europe recently and EVERY SINGLE vehicle whether its a brand/model that is or is not sold in the US is available with a plethera of engine choices.
Yes I said choices, you do not have to buy what they want you to buy from stock because they don't have a stock.... you have to order your vehicle.
The reason that DOT is letting these Manufactures back in the country is because of the new technogy clean diesel engines......now let me give an example of this BULLSHITNESS. Has any one ever been near a FORD F-250 with a POWER STROKE diesel at IDLE, I have and I can't even breathe after only 10 seconds. Mind you in the state of NEW YORK up until THIS year you COULD NOT purchase a lil'ol Jetta tdi but you could buy a stinky ass F-250.... It has nothing to do with emissions, they are simply controlling us.
Another thing to pay attention too... Europe has more diesels than petrol, the diesel IS cheaper than petrol per/ltr.... lasts longer and is cheaper, no brainer write!
Here in America the diesel is more expensive than premium, so why would I need to buy a diesel. That is the ignorance of this country and the politics of the oil companies.
Wasn't one of them the freedom of choice!!

Another thing I have to say about these shmucks at DOT is this foolishness with the 25 year import reg. by the time an American can buy something, well.... all I have to say is if their cars are cool now I could only imagine what choice they will have in another 25 years!

By the way the govnment has everything to do with it!

b: There's no center diff lock in the Jeep? How the blazes do you get a 50/50 torque split with an open center diff??

c: Only 266 lb ft o tprque from the "Puma" engine...or did I misread the units....

And another note.... that magazine is CRAP! all they seem to aim for is pickup trucks and caravan towing machines.

Their only "off road" if on a pay& play site or some wildly tweeked suzuki SJ.

Yup, the defender is limited to 82mph (Easily removable with the right black box) but i think this is to do with the "commercial" angle of the defenders as opposed to a glorified car that the Jeep is.

But i don't think that the article is a real fair comparison anyway.... the kind of person who would buy a defender probably wouldn't even consider a jeep, and vica~versa, totally different class of vehicle.
