I couldn't read past this line: "Pfc. Marvin Kitman (retired) ". Is this a joke? Unless I'm missing some DoD trickery, if someone retires at the rank of pfc (not even sure how that is possible), I'd say they are not worthy to be president or manager at Burger King.

Think most of it (hell, even the campaign itself) is a bit tongue in cheek. Enjoyable read, especially for politics. Waiting for someone to chime in on the badge # of Jamie Kitman'a NAS 90...

Technically speaking, you don't know what your talking about civilian! He's discharged. A vet he is, combat vet or retiree he is not. (Retired) is reserved for those that are officially retired after a long career. It's a legit DoD status.

You can be medically retired. Didn't read the article so just making a point that luckily our disabled vets don't need to go by your definition to be considered retired.

agree. i put disabled in there, then omitted it so as to not overly complicate my response, which was already that as is. There was no mention of him being injured in his 2 years of draft, so it wasn't relevant.

I know Jamie personally. He's a hell of a fun guy, and definitely a character. Also a true Rover enthusiast (he actually owns a slew of gen-you-wine Rover cars, among countless other British and Italian oddballs). If anyone remembers LandRoverLifestyle magazine, he wrote a feature for them on his ex-MOD Series IIa. If he says he has a D90 NAS, I'm inclined to believe him. His gig for Automobile is a side job; he's a music attorney for a living. Smart man, too.

I remember when the column first ran... 20 years ago. Still my favorite magazine, Automobile. Kitman's humor runs through his articles, perhaps as evidenced by the title of his regular column: "Noise, Vibration and Harshness." Sometimes, he'll discuss a very serious topic (i.e. Detroit) and demonstrate his proficient journalistic skills. He's written about Land Rovers on many occasions.

I'd be curious if he still has the Defender...

He is an awesome guy. I met him years back and he let me drive his 110 ROW and he introduced me to Mike (Rivermike). A real genuine guy.
