Pissed

Well its about 11 degrees out now when I tried starting my 90 an hour ago it was 7 degrees out and guess what. It won't start!!! I've just replaced my starter with a Mean Green so hoping that it was just the battery I tried jumping it. No dice. Even let it sit connected to my dad's explorer for a while still no luck. So I get a day off work not that I mind. But I know have to figure out if my starter is dead again or if its just the battery.

End of Rant.

I feel better now.

Tyler, I would check all the connections first, It has happened to me (well not personally in my truck but in friends cars) more then once that a connection was bad at the battery or starter and no matter how much we tried to jump it it would not start.

Did you give the starter a good wack? If anything else it helps when you are frustrated when that your Rover won't start and you are laying in the snow under it trying to get it running.

Hmm.. I haven't wacked it yet. Was going to wait untill it got light out before I started beating on it. The odd thing is it was driving fine yesterday so I'm thinking the battery is crapping out. I think the battery is pretty old.

Don't feel too bad, it's -1 with 14 inches of fresh powder at my frozen wasteland. I'm afraid to even attempt to start up my 90.

See I'd rather have the 14 inches of fresh powder than the just plain cold here. On a dise note I'm assuming the relay for the starter is a normal relay i can get from NAPA.

Hey Tyler, is it parked on a hill by chance? Could you try push starting it?

Its in my driveway at the bottom of a slight hill. I've been thinking of what I can use as an anchor across the street to anchor it to.

The weather has been real nasty here too - It dropped down to 55 degrees last night. I even thought about putting the top back on.

Sorry I couldn't help myself. Good luck with the starter.

Yeah thanks Joe! It's 5*F out and snowing! Here is Jimmy's truck, although I should have had someone take pics of me doing doughnuts in the parking lot on the forklift.

A major temp drop like we've had can expose a weak battery REAL fast. But it could also be a frozen solenoid or starter. I'm with the other guys, check all the connections first and inspect the starter relay. You should hear it going pop-pop as you turn the key.

Joe P -

Just kidding. I lived in So Ca for 10 yrs. I did this to myself.

Tyler - It's true the snow can be fun but it took me an hour to dig out my Dodge (no garage privileges). I had the enginge block heater plugged into an extension cord and the whole front end of the truck was a encased in a chunk of ice. I thought I was going to have to cut the cord for couple of minutes. Fortunately I was able to chip enough ice away to get at it. Guess I'll go snowshoeing with the dogs now.

Good luck getting your truck started.

Might be a grounding issue. Take your jumper cables and run it from the negative to the engine and try, if nothing, try from the battery to the starter--at least it will rule it out quickly enough.

A good battery test is to drop a wrench across the battery terminals. If the wrench melts into 2 parts before the battery goes dead then the battery is good, otherwise the battery is dead. Either way bring the wrench back to craftsmen.
