I did something like that once in a Ford pickup truck. All accept it wasn't when the wrench melted I knew it was okay, it was when the hood caught on fire that I was sure the battery was fine and it was another problem.

Sidenote, even after melting nearly all the way through the battery still worked and the motor turned right over after I put out the flames. In true D-90 fashion (this is how I knew I was destined to get a Defender) I used a 2 liter Coke bottle as a fire extinquisher.

My dad accidentaly used that battery test years ago on my CJ-7. It was my first lesson in welding and the first time I realized that my Dad didn't know EVERYTHING. About a month later he sprayed WD-40 onto the brushes of a running electric motor in a shopvac. It looked like Whiley Coyote after missing the Road Runner again. Pretty funny stuff and best of all, nobody lost an eye

Thanks all for the advise. After a friend showed up and after trying to get the frozen hood to open we bump started it. Then drove it about 20 miles to our shop and guess what. It started right up after i shut it off. Go figure the started must have been frozen. Funny when I installed the mean green it looked pretty well sealed. We shall see if this happens again.

Tyler, there are breather vents on my mean green, and I ran breather hoses up into the engine bay to keep water out it, I would suggest doing the same!

Hmm.. I'll look at it and see what I can do with breathers. BTW when you installed yours are the terminals facing the ground? I had to pull the power cables about 4 inches to get them to reach the power stud as its on the bottom of the starter.

Yep! They face the ground, and just barely reach!

Well it happend again this morning. Wouldn't start. Went in and woke parents up to ask for a tow. Come back out get everything hooked up and it starts with no problem. ARGG... So I've bought a new battery and will see if that works. If not looks like I'll be parking on hill.

Hmm.. I think I pissed Santa off. Went to start the truck to head out and click click click click. No start just solinoid clicking and all the lights in the cab dimming. Finaly started after many times turning the key. Thinking the starter is bad. Anyway Merry Christmas to all.
