Philadelphia "Happy Hour"*

April 25, 2009

Build a rover at Tom Bache's house in Avondale, PA. Get together with a bunch of crazy land rover people who think they can build a Series truck from parts in less than two months of weekends.

Meet evilfij, buy his rover junk (free delivery to Avondale from Ron's House [full of] of Used Rover Parts)

www.roversclub.org

Ron

*9am saturday morning is a happy hour if you are working on a rover.

HI Everyone,

Only one week to go before our latest event. Over a seven week period the
club members will recondition and assemble a complete S111 88" Land Rover.
Here is a chance to learn a new skill or technical education about the
working of Series Rovers. The end product will be road ready and auctioned
off, the net proceeds split between the club and a charity chosen by the
majority of members working on the vehicle.

If you have ever wanted to overhaul the Zenith carb or see the inner
workings of the transmission, sand blasting, wiring, or really like the
comraderie of a group project this is for you. The club will buy new oil and
filter, any wiring components, clutch hydraulics, and all new brake hydraulic
parts and shoes. Whatever isn't here, we hope the club members will scrounge
up from their stock pile of spares or beg from the public at large. We
will attempt to use all standard components, so the vehicle is serviceable to
the new owner when completed. We want to build a Rover everyone will want
to own.

On April 25th 9AM we will start with a scavenger hunt at my house to round
up all the parts. The chassis may need just a small amount of welding, the
body may need the have the old paint removed so we can get a good finish
for new paint. We will divide into teams to work on components, everyone
will take something home to recondition. All metal brackets will be returned
to black, so they can be ready for assembly the next week. Doors and
wings will need sanding and primer. The roof and tub can be prepped here, then
hauled away to Lebanon.
We will not work Memorial Day weekend.

Schedule:
April 25th 9AM
Tom Bache's house
[PM for address and contact info for Tom]

This weekend is in Avondale, the following weekends are in lebanon PA, but I am assuming one team will set up in avondale so subsequent weekends there could work too -- I will know more after the first meeting.

PM or email if you want to come.

Sounds like fun, but I just don't have the time. Gotta get my truck back on the road first.

Update from Mr. Bache!

HI Everyone,

Sat is the day, great weather is on tap. We will go through the
collection of parts decide what is needed and begin the refurbishment. Lunch is
being provided-roasted ( or white barbeque) chicken is the main dish, provided
by the local boy scout troop.
This is an eight week build cycle and lots of help needed throughout the
project. Next week at the Rover Shop in Lebanon lunch will also be catered
for the team.
This is a unique project, perhaps never before attempted. We will
photograph the project along the way for a series of articles to be published.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday.

Tom Bache

BTW, the truck will likely be auctioned or raffled off after built with proceeds going to a charity the ROVERS club chooses.
