Pen Drive Data Recovery

It's been ages since I do any work on electronics.

My Pen Drive is not working and need to know if anyone here can help me.

The LED light is on all the time.

Do you know which resistors I need to short? Which one is the fuse?

When I connect the Pen Drive, the LED turns on. But the PC doesn't recognize it.

Have you rebooted PC? Did you Scan the PC for New Hardware? Any drivers downloaded for the pen drive?

Have you tried any recovery software? ie http://www.wondershare.com/disk-util...-recovery.html

Have you tried it on another PC or laptop?

If you need help I can Teamview your PC and try to figure out what is going on.

Yeah kind of hard to support when you're not on site...go find a local pc guy that has a glimmer of intelligence in his eye...future planning for multiple backups is necessary...but you're an engineer, I'm preaching to the quire...

If I spend the time, I'll figure it out... This is not quantum physics.

I was looking to see if someone that does this shit for a living could help me faster.

It sounds like a hardware problem with this usb stick, especially given the pictures, but can you tell us if this got damaged in some way?

If it were me, I'd try another computer, and then under linux which gives better diagnostics about what is happening when you plug in the device. It could be filesystem corruption, which in that case is also easier to handle under linux - you image the drive to a file and then work on it like you would on any other drive or drive image. It is likely small enough to send to someone else to help you with as well.

Yes, it is a hardware issue. These things have a fuse and I think that it's bad. Without the schematics it's impossible to figure it out.

The pen drive started giving me "Write Protection" a few days ago.

This one does not have the switch to turn on-off the Write Protection.

Now, once is plugged in the red LED stays on all the time.

Windows will not recognize it.

Can't you just use the tax files you have printed out, or use the PDFs you have saved elsewhere?
