Painted New Style Door Hinges Group Buy

Summary for those who don't want details: Notify me if you are interested in rust-free new-style Defender hinges ready-painted to match your truck.

At risk of becoming known as a "group buy whore" I want to float another idea.

I'm getting ready to install a set of new-style Defender hinges on my truck, these are the ones with a slightly different shape that are not prone to the same metal-to-metal contact and rust bleeds as the old style. I got some terrible quotes for labor and paint, so I decided to tackle it myself with the help of a friend. Between painting and prep, the project wasnt that bad, but the paint is expensive enough to make one-off projects a bit costly.

Rovers North sells these as kits for 250, which includes hardware, but then they have to be painted. I'm pretty sure that for a larger group, that price could be probably be matched for painted hinges, ready to install. One thing RN doesnt tell you is that Soft Top door caps have to be modified to fit, and when you cut 'em, you really need to repaint them.

I know the hinges can be had for less, especially in quantity. The paint is expensive as hell for quality polyeurethane, so alot depends on how many people want in for each color. Fortunately there are only a few different colors on NAS Rovers. Door caps aren't super-expensive, but need to be done at the same time.

Anyway, I'm tossing this one out there, feedback is welcome. As always, the pros stepping in and mentioning if the amatuers are about to cause an explosion is also welcome.

I will take some old hinges, say enough to do the middle doors on a 110 and a full 110 set, so 3 d-90s worth :-)

I'm tentatively interested as well. Though my truck is white, I'd be looking for black hinges actually.

Do you have any pics of the hinges? I would be interested too, if they aren't those block looking square ones sold by AB. In Arles Blue for me, I hope there are some other Arles owners interested.

Jim, can you post some pictures of how the door caps need to be modified? I might be interested.

Actually, I just bought too much blue paint for touching up and I am kinda itching to try some painting. So, if you can get a good deal on the hinges, I may be interested in getting just the hinges from you. Unless you have a few Arles Blue orders, then it would ok to let you do all the work
Otherwise you may be losing money on my order.

I have had these on the 97 SW for 2 years now. No more rust after 2 salty winters. A very nice addition.

I would suggect Stainless bolts as well. I got the Mud-uk and they are very nice as well.

Might be easier to pay for the piant/install. My shop got me in and out for 100 bucks and no fussing with the captive nuts in the bulkhead.

There seems to be a bit of interest so far in white...

I'm confident that there will be no point in doing less than 5 sets of hinges at a time, since the paint is 75/pint before you add hardener and extender.

I'll keep researching and we'll go from there.

I just realized that for those of use who have ST, would it be possible for us to remove our door caps, send them to you for cutting/painting as well? We'd of course pay the extra money for this service. It would just make it easier for us. Please let us know. Thanks
