I don't believe any diesel rovers were sold in US/Canada since the 2.25 diesel in the series trucks, but i could be wrong.

The diesel unit they put in the P38a was an anemic 3.0 BMW unit. It wasn't popular.

But it was available in a stick...

I did service a customer with a p38 nas converted to 5speed turbo diesel and indeed did have the bmw unit, I replaced the timing belt.
take off city driving leaves a lot to be desired but once you are over 3rd gear it revs nice and strong, almost comparable to gasoline performance.
he claimed he had it converted here somewhere in the states by importing everything out of another p38....honestly it looked too clean, so to me the person doing the job of putting it together here must have been the same one taking it apart overseas and yes the vin sticker on the door did match the vehicle as a 98 nas with a 4.6. I did not get nosi about chasis stamp so dont know if matched, did not care either not my job.
someone new what they were doing... ahem....
