Overland Expo

Anyone headed to Prescott the end of April for the Expo? Listed it here, as it is not a Rover specific event, and curious if anyone headed that way from east coast?

It's always a good time to go to Moab, god I had fun out there last September.

I've just found the whole "Expedition" thing seems to be turning into an excuse for people who don't really wheel to buy gas cans and auxillary lights.

"I've just found the whole "Expedition" thing seems to be turning into an excuse for people who don't really wheel to buy gas cans and auxillary lights."

I resemble that remark, although I prefer to explain it as an excuse to make sure my rover stays reliable.

A bit like all the "clean never wheeled..." listings? However, the guys really doing the expedition type trips don't tow their rigs :-) and it is a good venue for families w/ younger kids- include the family and go alot, or go hardcore and stay home alot. I was unaware the expedition crowd had such a connotation...

I'm not denigrating the whole concept Dale. It's just that there are a lot of folks taking their Ford Explorer with a set of AT's to a state campground and making photo blogs of their "Expedition" to post on the web. Thats a vacation, not an expedition.

It's in Prescott, Az end of April.
I totally agree Kevin, I don't watch/read all that, and had no idea it had become another poser sport.
As they say, adventure without risk is Disney!! I've kinda backed into it all, as the kids are small and enjoy 'Alpine Loop' stuff, but I miss the Blanca stuff sometimes. It's all good as they say. Cheers.

You mean like this? Going out for a trail ride at the Rally in Moab with nothing in the back of the truck .

Kevin, you're such a cynic.

Seriously, is there a sport or activity on earth without poseurs?

And to be perfectly frank, while the Overland Expo has lined up a bunch of the coolest names in expedition travel, we'll also welcome the families with Ford Expeditions, even if they have a roof rack. Everyone has to start somewhere, and every trip does not have to be a six-month trek across Africa.

The OX09 is going to be about overland travel, pure and simple. No monster trucks, no Realtree camo beer coolers, no ATVs. Those who make it will be glad they did. We'd love to see some people from the D90 Source there.

I'd love to go there and pose, but I just can't get away in April. Surely you can re-schedule it for my sake?

It will be held at the fairgrounds in Prescott near the end of April. Here's a link to the website:

Overland Expo

Edit: Sorry, Jim - we already wrote a check for the venue!

So if I have jerry cans and a roof rack, but only use the rack when the inside of the truck is completely full (center of gravity thing) and never put the jerrys (never take them unless long trip/offroad) on the roof (too friggin heavy to be user friendly) am I a poseur ???

Please define. LOL

It depends on the lights on your rack. If you only have spot beams up there you're not a poseur. If you have driving beams up there you're a poseur, unless you have a blacked-out hood, in which case you're not a poseur as long as the hood paint is Krylon and not professionally sprayed Dupont Imron, in which case you are a poseur.

"Defining poseur" could turn into a whole worthwhile thread in its own right - to the extent that it is necessary to define and ridicule those whose inauthentic pursuits of recreation are unorthodox and heretical.

I'm sure this will be a great event, wish I could be there. Too bad the organizers feel the need to stick to their original schedule

Sometimes after an outing, I do not wash the mud off my ST for weeks... Just to make people think I use my truck. It looks really good my office's parking lot.

A poseur is a 2 wheel drive truck that is lifted, with a rack and lights and a tire on the roof. A few of the kids in my neighborhood have the trucks their parents gave them, they buy the Yakima rack and some hella 500's (not hooked up), a pelican case or some look a like and then put the tire on the rack too.
