Here's my perspective having two 2 year olds, I think this decision, like all decisions that are involved being a parent, advocate and experienced voice on their behalf, it's simple.

You just have to think about the how you would feel if your dog had "insert bad outcome here" and as her daddy, you didn't proactively stop it.

painful no doubt, but simple
I do get your motivation and appreciate the amount that people chimed in, but I still feel that is jumping to an extreme conclusion at this point based on what actually happened.

We've made a lot of progress since I first posted and I have a call into a trainer for a professional assessment soon.

Danny,
I have a 26 month old boy that loves chasing my two Duck Tollers around.... well chasing anything around. He hit the "terrible twos" in spades last week so now the chasing includes hitting. Thankfully, the dogs do their best to get out of the way and show zero aggression back. I try to consistently tell my son "no, don't chase the dogs" and put him in the time out chair. This remains a work in progress as I need that consistency when I am not there as well.
Good luck with your situation. Sounds like you are doing all the right things.

Just make sure you insert yourself between the dogs and your boy periodically to ensure the tollers (great dogs) understand that its you, your wife, your kid and they are last.
