Opinion s on 2001 Disco 4.0 reliability

Yeah, yeah, I know it's a Land Rover. I'm looking at a clean 2001 DII with the 4.0 and 87k on the clock. The asking price is $5900 which is bit more than I really want to pay.

That's way too expensive...

Yup, waaay too much for what looks to be a stock 2001 D2.Depending on the build date it probably has the neutered transfer case with no CDL at all which make it an even more of a bad deal..

I bought a 1998 D1 in 2001 with 20k miles (has the same engine). Now has 139k miles
Never any major issues with the engine, i have towed 2k lb trailer with 2001 bmws 540 from RI to NY. Also towed porsche 911 form VT to LI. Not to mention a bunch of other towing/trailing/beaching. Like any rover oil leaks and need to stay on top of the maintenance.
BTW, 3.5k would be the max I would pay for that stock DII...

Should be Bosch vice GEMs, is at the mileage tipover point where shit gets really expensive if it hasn't been maintained, and is about $2k to expensive in my opinion for what would amount to a good DD and foul weather truck.

Agreed 2-3K too expensive and it's been my experience and the advice of "those who know" that the 115K mark is where you start putting the maintenance dollars in...

Must've been one of the bad '03s.
There was a TSB on those.
I think you can still do better/cheaper...
