I notice Tesla is not in on it. Musk is like Google and Ubuntu. He likes it open sourced.

What is this "technology" you speak of? I have one wire running to my engine.

What about those of us that have made our mods already? Are we as good as prosecuted if this passes? Or are we grandfathered?

I think the article is a bit misleading. It has to do with hacking the ECU code. I could see a scenario if people mess with the code and the car does something unexpected that results in a crash. The manufacturer does not want to be responsible for that.

X2. You void your warranted with ecu mods but it's sort of like jail breaking your phone. You can do it but you lose manufacturer support

If manufacturers can get sued for auto crashes then those working on the vehicles must be held liable in a lawsuit also.

This is how it is with airplanes. You cannot work on your own airplane because anyone who works on an airplane is listed in the maintenance logs and is named in the lawsuit if that airplane crashes. You have to be certified to work on airplanes.

I hate all new cars anyways. 4 tires on the ground is the bottleneck. We've long surpassed the technological limit of 4 tires on the ground. I only buy old cars and restore now. Except for my G Wagon of course. But even the G Wagon today has a bunch of electronic nannies that drive me nuts. You can't work on a new G wagon anyways without a computer science degree.

New cars tank in value when you drive them off the lot. The tech in them will look like Atari in 3 years. Don't buy them.
